"Castel Maurn is a roughly 1,000-year-old residence, with origins dated to around 990, tucked into a green corner of Val Pusteria above San Lorenzo di Sebato (St. Lorenzen) near Brunico. Restored into a small boutique property, it pairs old vaults, historical frescoes, wood paneling, and 18th-century herringbone floors with contemporary design across eight individually styled suites (roughly 35 to 75 square meters), each with a king bed, living area, and fully equipped kitchen. It's run as an exclusive, intimate retreat by hosts Walter and Sabine rather than a full-service hotel, with breakfast, a heated outdoor pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, cold plunge, gym, and a historic garden, and the option of a private chef or full-castle buyout. It sits about 5 minutes from the Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) ski area and around 30 minutes from Alta Badia at the mouth of the Gadertal, which makes it a genuinely well-placed base."
