Hawksmoor NYC : Steakhouse britannique à New York

"Located at 109 E 22nd Street in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building—a historic space that was closed from public view for over a century—Hawksmoor NYC opened after seven years of dreaming, planning, tasting, and touring to bring the acclaimed London steakhouse (which first opened over fifteen years ago and became one of London's most beloved restaurants) to the spiritual home of the steakhouse. The gorgeous, lively, contemporary space features a stunning 26-foot vaulted ceiling, a 35-seat bar area, 150 seats in the dining room, and two private dining rooms that each accommodate up to 12 guests for exclusive sharing-style set menus with big portions of Hawksmoor classics and bespoke beverage packages. Known for its upscale take on traditional British food celebrating all-natural, pasture-reared, traditionally dry-aged beef from family-run farms in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, New England, and the Pacific Northwest, simply seasoned with flaked sea salt and seared over live-fire charcoal—standout dishes include potted beef & bacon (gelatinous layer of butter with two egg-y Yorkshire puddings and amazing onion gravy, one of the best in the city), Carolina-spiced Old Spot pork belly you can cut like butter with vinegar slaw, lamb T-bones appetizer, charcoal-roasted bone marrow, steak tartare with dry-aged rump and filet, filet mignon (their best steak work), rump steak, porterhouse, chateaubriand, charcoal-roasted scallops with white port & garlic (one of the best dishes on menu), half lobster, beef dripping fries (shiny, salty, fried in beef fat like old McDonald's), creamed spinach dense as egg custard, ash-baked beets salad, sticky toffee pudding, and Hawksmoor cheeseburger with grass-fed beef and bone marrow. The restaurant also offers locally and sustainably sourced seafood from northeastern waters, small-farm produce, award-winning cocktails including NYC's coldest martini, carefully curated wine selection, BYO Mondays ($10 corkage per bottle), British tradition Proper Sunday Roast, Express Lunch specials, zero-proof cocktails praised by Vogue, British bar bites including Reuben nuggets and hash browns, industry-leading employment practices, and a conscientious approach to sourcing—though some reviews note steaks can be inconsistent in cooking and quality doesn't always match the premium price point compared to NYC peers, with the atmosphere feeling more like a modern restaurant serving steak than a traditional steakhouse."

"Great steakhouse, a bit noisy, not as expensive as I expected"

"This London-based chain became one of the city’s better steakhouses when it opened in 2021. Note that Flatiron restaurant is one of the few city venues to grill its dry-aged steaks over charcoal. One can easily order expensive rib-eyes, filets, and strips, but the restaurant also offers a fine rump cut at just $45. Desserts, including pavlova or the peanut butter Louis, can merit a trip in their own right. Don’t miss lunch or the bar menu."

"Would you, perhaps, care for some sticky toffee pudding? How about a steak with beef fat fries? Or maybe some potted beef with a few yorkshire puddings on the side? At London import Hawksmoor, you can enjoy all of those things in a green leather booth beneath arched ceilings that wouldn’t feel out of place in a museum on the Thames. The filet is our cut of choice at this British steakhouse, but you should also try the charcoal-roasted lobster and dense creamed spinach. Just looking for drinks and dessert? The bar up front is perfect for that."

"TopJaw recommended. Gorgeous space. Steakhouse "

@jtower14

"Not sure about the hype around this place. Food's not so exceptional: too much onion in the Bone Marrow, Tartare was bland, Beef Fat Fries not so tasty, Chateubriand just average. Way too overpriced. Just go to the cocktail bar which is very nice. Walk-ins ok. "

"London steakhouse group come to NY; amazing châteaubriand and strip cut; GREAT mac and cheese, also get the scallops 100% (skip bone marrow with too many caramelized onions and steak tartare); also great cocktails and chill staff (good internal culture, i asked); Sunday Roast until 4pm"

"British staple stand out steakhouse. Scallops, mashed potatoes, cocktails 1883 interiors - kinda sounds like gage and tollner? Went for dessert after atoboy on a Friday at 1030pm and it was so fun. Pretzel crunch sundae was life changing. Molten choco cake not worth it, sticky toffee pudding sundae so good"

"Hawksmoor NYC, a London transplant on Park Avenue and 22nd Street, is the city’s newest great steakhouse. It’s the perfect place to have an ice-cold martini followed by some crispy Yorkshire pudding and a $50 strip steak with a side of creamed spinach. You should probably dress up prior to coming here, since the place feels a bit Anna Delvey-adjacent. But if you sit at the bar, you can always have a Diet Deluxe experience on a regular old Thursday night."
