"Cervo’s has been around since long before Dimes Square's new dining buzz, and it continues to be one of the area's best restaurants. The kitchen looks toward the coasts of the Iberian Peninsula—but the vivacious, tightly-packed space and the seasonal outdoor seating on Canal Street feels distinctly New York. The regularly changing menu always leans heavily into seafood and vegetables with lots of bright and briny touches like spicy mussels escabeche, butterhead lettuce salads tossed with anchovies and Roquefort, and little Manila clams cooked in vinho verde. While there are larger plate options like a fried skate wing and a lamb burger, the best meals at Cervo’s are the ones made up of many small plates you can leisurely work your way through. Like the food menu, the wine offerings are inspired by Spain and Portugal, with a number of orange bottles and other natural options. There’s also a vermouth service with seven vermouths on offer, and an excellent spritz."

"Bib Gourmand 2024 The cooking has never been better at this high-energy galley built out of mosaic tiles and cozy wood paneling. Inspired by the coastal traditions of Spain and Portugal, the menu is packed with winners. Indeed, this is a kitchen that isn’t afraid of flavor. A salad of pea shoots is deceptive in its sophistication thanks to roasted hazelnuts, aged goat cheese and a blizzard of freshly cracked black pepper. Marinated potatoes tango with thinly sliced onions and fried rock shrimp. Fish is a must; swing for the seabream cooked until the skin is crisp as a chip and then covered in sweet Habanada peppers. Whether you’re waiting to get in, sitting at a table or bar, or cooking, everyone is elbow to elbow, and all too happy to stay a little while longer."

"Lots of good bars nearby. Would make a second drinks res given this area is super popular right now (2024). Dinner with dessert is ~2hrs. Seafood place but piri piri chicken was great and should be ordered to balance out the lightness of the apps. "

"Rwco chlo Cervo’s used to be a little more chill (less of a scene), but it doesn’t really matter because the simple portuguese inspired seafood is still EXCELLENT. It’s a killer date spot (maybe 2nd or 3rd date), and the drinks coming out of the bar are perfectly executed. Ideal Meal: Dinner Price: $$$ Ideal Group Number: 2 Best Thing on the Menu: whatever seafood happens to be served on toast or fried Also Great: Olives, piri piri chicken, prawns, and some bread for mopping up sauces Drink Order: Sherry or vermouth spritzes, classic cocktails Note: You will probably wait for your table. Showing up on the earlier side is never a bad move. Not the place for large parties."

"Portuguese / Spanish food Infatution Review: Unless you show up before Cervo’s opens at 5:30pm, you’re going to have to wait at least an hour to sit down. (Our strategy for anyone beholden to a nine-to-five is to put your name down, and then head to Bar Belly for a drink - Clandestino will probably be busy, but that works too.) If you’re looking for a comparatively sexier or calmer night out than what’s happening in The Tub, eat inside the dining room where golden rays stream in at sunset on the swirly marble bar. Here you can bask in the shellfish steam wafting through the restaurant, and listen to neo-disco music that involuntarily forces many patrons to purse their lips and bob their heads like chickens. The steamed-to-order clams and perfectly-pink lamb burger warrant the fuss Eater Review: Restaurateur trio Nialls Fallon, Nick Perkins, and Leah Campbell have a dining room for every occasion. Their first joint operation, Hart’s in Bed-Stuy, is an unfussy neighborhood hangout with of-the-moment natural wines. The Fly, located right around the corner, pairs gloriously juicy rotisserie chicken with under-$15 cocktails. And set apart on the Lower East Side is Cervo’s, which technically opened second but remains first in our hearts. From this low-ceilinged, no reservation restaurant, chef and partner Aaron Crowder is slinging crispy shrimp heads and clams bathed in vinho verde. Seafood is the focus, but don’t let that stop you from ordering the excellent piri piri chicken or lamb burger with anchovies."
