Cervo's : Restaurant Seafood & Tapas à New York

"We had a fantastic dinner at this seafood restaurant, just down the road from Time Again. The crowd was cool and creative, offering plenty of style inspiration to bring back to the UK. We dined al fresco, watching NYC’s nightlife slowly ignite as the night unfolded. [service95]"

"Cervo’s has been around since long before Dimes Square's new dining buzz, and it continues to be one of the area's best restaurants. The kitchen looks toward the coasts of the Iberian Peninsula—but the vivacious, tightly-packed space and the seasonal outdoor seating on Canal Street feels distinctly New York. The regularly changing menu always leans heavily into seafood and vegetables with lots of bright and briny touches like spicy mussels escabeche, butterhead lettuce salads tossed with anchovies and Roquefort, and little Manila clams cooked in vinho verde. While there are larger plate options like a fried skate wing and a lamb burger, the best meals at Cervo’s are the ones made up of many small plates you can leisurely work your way through. Like the food menu, the wine offerings are inspired by Spain and Portugal, with a number of orange bottles and other natural options. There’s also a vermouth service with seven vermouths on offer, and an excellent spritz."

"Bib Gourmand 2024 24th on The Infatuation Top 25 2025 The cooking has never been better at this high-energy galley built out of mosaic tiles and cozy wood paneling. Inspired by the coastal traditions of Spain and Portugal, the menu is packed with winners. Indeed, this is a kitchen that isn’t afraid of flavor. A salad of pea shoots is deceptive in its sophistication thanks to roasted hazelnuts, aged goat cheese and a blizzard of freshly cracked black pepper. Marinated potatoes tango with thinly sliced onions and fried rock shrimp. Fish is a must; swing for the seabream cooked until the skin is crisp as a chip and then covered in sweet Habanada peppers. Whether you’re waiting to get in, sitting at a table or bar, or cooking, everyone is elbow to elbow, and all too happy to stay a little while longer."

"Lots of good bars nearby. Would make a second drinks res given this area is super popular right now (2024). Dinner with dessert is ~2hrs. Seafood place but piri piri chicken was great and should be ordered to balance out the lightness of the apps. "

@harrybramwit

"A pick-me-up kind of restaurant, tiny Cervo’s is the place to snag a seat at the bar for a plate of green tomatoes with fried rock shrimp, mussels escabeche, or a fried skate wing with sungolds and bottarga. Tuck a glass of boutique Spanish vermouth in a rainbow of colors into your evening in between snacks."

"Rwco chlo Cervo’s used to be a little more chill (less of a scene), but it doesn’t really matter because the simple portuguese inspired seafood is still EXCELLENT. It’s a killer date spot (maybe 2nd or 3rd date), and the drinks coming out of the bar are perfectly executed. Ideal Meal: Dinner Price: $$$ Ideal Group Number: 2 Best Thing on the Menu: whatever seafood happens to be served on toast or fried Also Great: Olives, piri piri chicken, prawns, and some bread for mopping up sauces Drink Order: Sherry or vermouth spritzes, classic cocktails Note: You will probably wait for your table. Showing up on the earlier side is never a bad move. Not the place for large parties."

"In a hip, lively block on the edge of New York City’s Chinatown, Cervo’s feels like a hangout for wine lovers who also need to eat. The seafood-focused, Iberian inspired restaurant is headed up by Nialls Fallon, Leah Campbell and chef Nick Perkins, the same team behind always-rammed Brooklyn joints Hart’s and The Fly, which pour killer natural wines and serve unpretentious dishes. Almost everything at Cervo’s is to be shared, and preferably soaked up with lots of sourdough, with small plates including meaty prawns a la plancha, juicy scallops drizzled in chilli oil and paper-thin serrano ham with cucumber. There are also more substantial mains to tuck into, such as half a piri-piri chicken served with a heap of fries and a tender lamb burger topped with vinegary anchovies. But people are really here to sit at the sleek, minimal bar and sip Portuguese orange wine while snacking on crispy shrimp heads. You could almost be in Lisbon if it weren’t for the sound of the F train rumbling in the distance. "

"Reco Ines de la F. Resto portugais chic et cool. "

"Lower East Side Portuguese-Spanish Last summer, the outdoor-dining setup at downtown Portuguese-Spanish restaurant Cervo’s was a destination almost in spite of itself. Simple wooden folding tables and chairs sprawled across an unadorned and fluorescent-lit expanse of Canal Street. Counter-service orders were called out brusquely over a loudspeaker mounted on the building’s exterior. Serviceware was disposable. You found and bussed your own table. But the Dimes Square denizens flocked nonetheless, pushing together tables laden with dark-pink Spritzes, fried-fish sandwiches, and glistening head-on prawns. It was casual, cool, and as COVID-safe as one could hope for. Now, after a winter hiatus operating as a shop, the scene returns to Cervo’s, but this time the restaurant has full-service outdoor dining on a newly built yellow-tiled patio with proper glassware, plateware, and a menu of old favorites like piri-piri chicken, mussels escabeche, and crispy shrimp heads."

"Portuguese / Spanish food Infatution Review: Unless you show up before Cervo’s opens at 5:30pm, you’re going to have to wait at least an hour to sit down. (Our strategy for anyone beholden to a nine-to-five is to put your name down, and then head to Bar Belly for a drink - Clandestino will probably be busy, but that works too.) If you’re looking for a comparatively sexier or calmer night out than what’s happening in The Tub, eat inside the dining room where golden rays stream in at sunset on the swirly marble bar. Here you can bask in the shellfish steam wafting through the restaurant, and listen to neo-disco music that involuntarily forces many patrons to purse their lips and bob their heads like chickens. The steamed-to-order clams and perfectly-pink lamb burger warrant the fuss Eater Review: Restaurateur trio Nialls Fallon, Nick Perkins, and Leah Campbell have a dining room for every occasion. Their first joint operation, Hart’s in Bed-Stuy, is an unfussy neighborhood hangout with of-the-moment natural wines. The Fly, located right around the corner, pairs gloriously juicy rotisserie chicken with under-$15 cocktails. And set apart on the Lower East Side is Cervo’s, which technically opened second but remains first in our hearts. From this low-ceilinged, no reservation restaurant, chef and partner Aaron Crowder is slinging crispy shrimp heads and clams bathed in vinho verde. Seafood is the focus, but don’t let that stop you from ordering the excellent piri piri chicken or lamb burger with anchovies."

"Cervo's celebration of all things seafood is a modern menu with Spanish and Portuguese influences. Getting a table at Cervo’s is a pain in the butt. The Lower East Side restaurant does not take reservations. On any given night, you’ll be told to come back in an hour, sometimes two, and on weekends, often three. While you wait and look out at the patio, you may spot the writer whose Substack you read twice a week or a furniture designer responsible for the chair you want but will never buy. Don’t give up. If you can’t beat the micro-influencers, join them. Once you’re sitting with a martini and a plate of crunchy shrimp heads, you’ll be glad to be part of the scene. Your efforts will be rewarded with manila clams in vinho verde, a block party feel, and all the vermouth you can stomach. When Cervo’s opened in 2017, it was relatively painless to get a table. Couples popped in for Boston mackerel before a 9pm showing at Metrograph while downtown people swirled cardamom-flavored vermouth and sodas at the bar. Want to know our theory as to why Cervo’s is near-impossible to get into these days?"
