"Lever House (1950-2; 93 m) Alla sua inaugurazione nel 1952, la Lever House (cartina p456; 390 Park Ave, tra 53rd St e 54th St, Midtown East; bE, M fermata 5th Ave-53rd St) 21 piani d’altezza, era assolutamente all’avanguardia. Solo il grattacielo di Le Corbusier del Segretariato Generale dell’ONU aveva al tempo una facciata in vetro, un’innovazione che avrebbe ridefinito l’architettura urbana. Anche la forma era ardita: due parallelepipedi sovrapposti, in cui il glass-box si alzava come una stele su una base bassa e lunga: in questo modo veniva rispettata la norma del ‘zoning’ che prescriveva un certo spazio tra un grattacielo e l’altro. La corte aperta ha panche in marmo scolpite dall’artista nippoamericano Isamu Noguchi e nella lobby ci sono altre opere contemporanee."
