"Yangmingshan is Taipei’s backyard mountain park—misty ridges, fumaroles, and grassy plateaus a short drive or bus ride from the city. You can pick easy, mostly shaded walks (like the Qingtiangang grasslands loop) or more serious hikes up Qixingshan, but even the lighter options feel dramatically different from Singapore’s lowland greenery. December is cooler, often in the low-to-mid 60s°F, which is ideal for you: no humidity wall, maybe a light fleece at higher elevations. The scenery mixes Japanese-era villas, WWII-era relics, and post-war KMT retreats, so you get layered history with your nature; some trails also pass old American military housing. It’s not exactly “off the beaten path,” but once you’re away from the main parking areas, it feels much less crowded than urban Taipei."

"Yangmingshan National Park is one of Taiwan’s most beautiful parks, and it’s only a stone’s throw from the city. Take the MRT to Beitou and then one of the local buses up to the park information center. The park has many sights to see, but the most popular are the steaming fumaroles that remind visitors that the park was once an active volcano. There are also dozens of hiking trails to enjoy with some offering panoramic views of the city."
