"Tamsui is a riverside town at the northern end of the MRT line with a long promenade, old street full of snacks, and sunset views over the river. The waterfront path is flat and ideal for walking; you can stroll for a couple of miles without dealing with traffic, which will feel relaxing compared with central Taipei. The old street can be crowded, but the energy is more seaside-weekend than hard-party chaos, and you can duck into side streets and temple courtyards to get away from it. Food is very casual: fish balls, fried snacks, peanut ice-cream rolls, etc.—a fun counterpoint to the more polished restaurants you’ll hit in the city. Tamsui also has some history (old fort, churches) if you want to tie it into Taiwan’s colonial past."
