"8 Stuyvesant Street, East Village (2nd floor, through a Japanese restaurant). No standing allowed. Seats only — when it's full, you wait outside. Sake-forward cocktails, Japanese precision ranked #43 in north America, dim lighting. The most quietly excellent hidden bar in the city."

"Wonderful speakeasy, cozy atmosphere, behind an unmarked wooden door inside East Village Japanese restaurant Village Yokocho, try The Flitbird!! Or the Night Train, you have to climb the stairs up to the restaurant and wooden door on the left "

":( CLOSED 3/22 But new location in West Village. Opened in 1993 so probably longest modern “speakeasy” in NYC. Go into restaurant and walk upstairs to find unmarked door. They used to have an annexe at 14 Stuyvesant upstairs from Sharaku restaurants where I alsi went in May ‘16 but don’t think it’s still open. Ask next time I go. "
