"The communal tables of this Holloway restaurant, set in the simple interior of a disused laundry, fill up quickly, generating a snug and convivial atmosphere. It's well worth making a reservation in order to be at the heart of the action, and to experience the same quality of seasonal, simple, and creative small plates that have made the team's first site, Primeur, so well-loved. This time the emphasis is on fresh seafood; check their Instagram account to read the chef's pleasingly dog-eared, handwritten menu for the day.

"This is an unreconstructed spot in Highbury, and the area's most famous address is a little place called the Emirates Stadium; but North London flavour-snufflers and fellow chefs have long been getting excited about Westerns Laundry, the second fixture for the team behind Primeur. The restaurant is a gallery-like space in a Fifties industrial block, opened up with steel-framed windows, cobbles and Jeremie-crafted benches outside; the long and vociferous communal tables inside illuminated by Dan Flavin-style neon dashes. Unlike Primeur, the inspiration at Westerns Laundry are the day boats that heave to around the Cornish coast, with occasional forays to Catalunya and Asia for spicing. The chalkboard has a dynamic roll call of biodynamic wines by the glass, from pockets of Italy, France, Austria and Greece, ripe with Carignan, Zweigelt and Cinsault grapes – but nothing too weird. A convivial neighbourhood restaurant that opened up a neglected part of London."

"Primeur’s sister is set in a former laundry and has a similarly industrial feel. Arrive early for drinks in the courtyard then sit at one of the communal tables or the kitchen counter. Rustic British dishes – chalked on the board daily – are full of flavour and designed for sharing. "

"This sister to popular small-plates restaurant Primeur offers a menu that’s lighter and brighter than its sibling’s. Scrawled on a blackboard, the modern European line-up changes daily. Why go? To eat from a seriously magic neighbourhood menu, featuring a lively blend of fish, meat and unusual veg, served up on a mix of communal tables and cosy banquettes. You'll think you're in Soho, rather than Holloway."

"A relatively recent emphasis — in no small part because of a growing relationship between London restaurants and Cornish suppliers — is being placed on English waters. Jeremie Cometto-Lingenheim and David Gingell’s Western Laundry (the pair also oversees Primeur, Jolene, and Big Jo), is one of London’s best seafood restaurants, in the past year featuring a covered terrace for outdoor eating alongside the main dining room. It’s still serving glorious plates like fideo pasta rich with cuttlefish, squid ink, and aioli; monkfish friggitelli and mojo verde; and John Dory, peas, braised gem lettuce, and pancetta. A stellar winelist, with low-intervention and classic options adds to the reasons to visit this outstanding, warmly lit and carefully designed Holloway restaurant."
