"Ilenia. The walls are almost entirely covered with skulls and bones, arranged in niches, on cornices, pillars and doors. Bones also make up the decorations on the walls. The remains probably belong to the dead from the now-destroyed Brolo hospital dedicated to the care of lepers, and to bodies transferred from the suppressed 17th-century cemeteries. The skulls enclosed in boxes above the entrance door are those of those condemned to death. The vault is frescoed by Sebastiano Ricci, forerunner of Tiepolo, who introduced Venetian Baroque painting to Milan."

"Un po’ macabro forse ma merita un giro. Dove qui sorgono la Chiesa e l’ossario, un tempo c’era un ospedale, poco dopo ci fu un cimitero per seppellire i morti. A lato di esso fu eretta una camera per raccogliere le ossa esumate dal cimitero. Nel 1268  il Priore e i fratelli che reggevano l’ospedale fecero costruire un ossario dedicato a vari santi tra cui San Bernardino, distrutto da un terremoto, poi ricostruito nel 1695. Le pareti dell’edificio sono quasi completamente ricoperte da teschi e ossa umane che si trovavano nell’antico Ossario e nel cimitero che fu chiuso dall’amministrazione dell’Ospedale Maggiore. Fa un certo che camminare in uno spazio interamente ricoperto di ossa umane. Provare per credere "

"IN 1145, IN VIA BROLO, Milan, a hospital was built near the Santo Stefano Maggiore Church. The graveyard, filling with bodies from the new hospital, soon proved insufficient. Not long after, in 1210, a little chamber was built to collect the bones from the hospital, and, in 1269, another small church was constructed near the bone chamber. The ossuary at San Bernardino alle Ossa is located at the end of a short corridor to the the right of the church’s entrance. The vault is decorated with frescos from Sebastiano Ricci, dating from 1695. The building’s walls are completely covered in bones and skulls, some from the old ossuary, some from other local graveyards; they also decorate the doors and the pillars. Some have speculated that the bones belonged to martyrs killed by heretics in St. Ambros’ time. The bones, however, mostly seem to have come from the patients of the ancient Ospedale del Brolo (the local hospital), from monks that operated the hospital, and from people who died in prison."

"Ouvert tous les jours de 8h à 18h – fermé le dimanche Cette église d’origine médiévale abrite notamment la tombe des descendants de Christophe Colomb. Mais ce qui rend l’église San Bernardino alle Ossa unique, c’est sa chapelle latérale entièrement recouverte d’ossements et de crânes humains. D’où viennent ces os ? Ce sont vestiges issus des tombes du cimetière sur lequel l’église a été bâtie. C’était le cimetière de l’ancien hôpital San Barnaba in Brolo. Ce qui est particulièrement surprenant, c’est que tout est recouvert d’os. Les murs, les encadrements de porte, le tout formant des fresques et ornements… surprenant, mais à voir."

"Eccomi, impavido, tra teschi e tibie, nell’Ossario della chiesa di San Bernardino alle Ossa. 💀 Accanto a questo luogo sorgeva un ospedale dal quale sembrerebbero provenire tutte queste ossa. Se vi sentite mancare, spostate lo sguardo sullo straordinario affresco di Sebastiano Ricci che ricopre l’interno della cupola.
