Straddling the original stretch of the High Line railway-turned-park, this 338-roomer is teeming with contemporary charisma and a good measure of cheek. It's an adventure from the biergarten and the just-opened new restaurants to the dazzling disco and 360-degree-view cocktail bar at the top. There's a fake-grass-covered rooftop to spill out onto in summer and an ice skating rink at street level in winter. The views are more dramatic higher up, with the eighth and above the most breath-nabbing. Stare south at sunset to see the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty; look north to capture Manhattan in widescreen."
