"Construite entre le XII e et le XV e siècle, cette tour, qui appartient au Palazzo del Comune, est la plus haute de la ville (83 m). Seule tour privée de Vérone, elle a été construite par la puissante famille Lamberti. Son sommet abrite deux cloches, Rengo et Marangona. Autrefois, deux sonneurs de cloches l'habitaient ; ils avaient également le rôle de gardiens de prison, car régulièrement la tour était employée en tant que cachot pour les prisonniers. Du sommet, la vue sur Vérone est à couper le souffle ; au choix vous pourrez y monter à pied ou en ascenseur."

"Palazzo della Ragione PALAZZO (cartina p254; Cortile Mercato Vecchio) Presta una facciata a entrambe le piazze principali senza appartenere del tutto a nessuna di esse, ma è senza dubbio una delle più riuscite opere di romanico a uso civile che si trovino a Verona. Anche detto Palazzo del Mercato Vecchio per il cortile omonimo che un tempo serviva al commercio della biada, ha muri a fasce di tufo e cotto, e trifore come quelle tipiche dei palazzi costruiti in pieno Medioevo. Un lungo porticato ad archi scor re intorno al cortile, mentre il piano nobile è costituito da ampie sale tra cui quella in cui si riuniva il consiglio cittadino. E sempre restando nel cortile interno (dove in estate si tengono suggestive rappresentazioni te-atrali o concerti), il gioiello del palazzo è si-curamente la Scala della Ragione, in stile veneziano del XV secolo, sostenuta da vol-te e archi acuti. Oggi conduce all’ingresso della Galleria d’Arte Moderna Achille For-ti (%045 800 19 03; https://gam .comune .verona .it; interi/ridotti €4/2,50, biglietto cumulativo con Torre dei Lamberti interi/ridotti €8/5, gratuito con Verona Card; h10-18 mar-ven, 11-19 sab e dom) e della spettacolare Cappella dei Notai, gio-iello della pittura settecentesca con lavori di alta ebanisteria. Accanto alla Scala della Ragione troverete anche l’ingresso alla Tor-re dei Lamberti (%045 927 30 27; https://torre deilamberti .it; biglietto cumulativo con Galleria d’Ar-te Moderna interi/ridotti €8/5, solo visita alla Tor-re lun interi/ridotti €5/1, gratuito con Verona Card; h10-18 lun-ven, 11-19 sab e dom), delle cui ori gini si sa poco, se non che in cima vi era-no collocate due campane, una delle quali era preposta a chiamare i cittadini alle ar-mi in caso di minaccia. Costruita intorno al Duecento, deve la sua attuale forma a suc-cessive modifiche, l’ultima delle quali risa-le alla fine del XVIII secolo. Salire fino alla cella campanaria è consigliato per due ra-gioni: primo perché la vista è formidabile e permette di ammirare Piazza delle Erbe e il centro storico in tutta la loro ampiezza, secondo perché è una consuetudine perpe-tuata nel tempo dai veronesi stessi, come tributo alla città."

"UNESCO World Heritage Built in 1172 by the powerful Lamberti family, the tower that still bears their name stands 275 feet (84 m) high and is the tallest building in Verona. Since 1972 it has been open to visitors, who can reach the top via an elevator to enjoy a stunning view of the town. Erected in Romanesque style on the site of the ancient Roman forum, the original tower was much shorter, as one can see by looking at the limit of the lower part, made in bricks and tufa. Its two bells, called Rengo and Marangona, have become famous. The first bell served to call the people to public meetings; the second bell was used to regulate the working hours of the artisans in the nearby square its name comes from the local dialect for carpenter. .In 1403 a violent thunderbolt struck and caused severe damage to the top of the tower. In the rebuilding, between 1448 and 1464, the structure was raised to its present height, with a refined octagonal belfry set up over elegant windows with three lights. The large clock was added at the end of the eighteenth century. Only a few feet away from the tower, beyond an ancient wrought-iron gate, visitors are immediately drawn to a superb masterpiece of Veronese Gothic sculpture: the Scaliger Tombs (Arche Scaligere). Here rest the bodies of the most renowned members of the Lamberti family who ruled the town for more than a century, such as Cangrande I, Mastino II, Cansignorio, Alberto I, and Giovanni Della Scala. They were buried in engraved monumental sarcophagi, adjacent to the church of Santa Maria Antica, adorned with statues and surmounted by rich pyramidal canopies (the equestrian statue of Cangrande I is now in Castelvecchio Museum). The Lamberti Tower and the Scaliger Tombs, now, as in the Middle Ages, are sited in the heart of Verona, and with the other monuments constructed around them, they create an atmospheric setting."

"Fino ad arrivare alla medievale Torre dei Lamberti, visibile anche da Piazza dei Signori, essendo quest’ultima praticamente adiacente a quella delle Erbe. Fatta di tufo e cotto, la Torre dei Lamberti è alta 84 metri e fu voluta dall’omonima potente famiglia nel 1172. Verso la fine del 1700 poi, le fu applicato un grande orologio. Sulla torre si può salire in ascensore o a piedi (io l’ho fatto a piedi!), per poter ammirare lo splendido panorama offerto su Verona. Orari: da lunedì a venerdì 10:00 – 18:00 / Sabato, domenica e festivi 11:00 – 19:00 Costo Torre dei Lamberti: lunedì €5,00 / Da martedì a domenica Torre dei Lamberti + Galleria d’Arte Moderna Achille Forti € 8,00"
