"Food and cocktail menu are top notch. Airy yet cozy Peruvian spot with amazing ceviche and lots of banana flavored menu items. Sit at the bar for a date. Walk ins easy before 5:30, or else make a reservation. $10 cocktails during happy hour (every day at the bar until 7pm). Bananarama cocktail was great. "

"Despite attempts from prominent names, such as the great Gastón Acurio, it took former Eleven Madison Park (see p031) sous chef Erik Ramirez (New Jersey-born but of Peruvian ancestry) to finally get Peruvian cooking just right in New York. Building on traditional fare, Ramirez adds scallion pancakes to lomo saltado (beef stir-fry) and cooks anticuchos (skewered meat) over Binchotan charcoal on a Konro grill. The bar focuses on pisco cocktails, and the wine list is geared towards small South American labels; try a glass from the Bodega Chacra vineyard in Patagonia. Rows of hanging plants add warmth and the striking llama-wool rope installation comes courtesy of Betil Dagdelen. Head up to rooftop bar El Techo for a nightcap. 50 Withers Street, T718 387 3434, www.llamainnnyc.com"

"Upbeat, modern and cool, Llama Inn pays respect to all styles of Peruvian cooking, but with the technical flair of Chef Erik Ramirez who has trained in New York’s top restaurants. The result is a fresh, fun and spontaneous cuisine that aims to elevate Peruvian food. Anticuchos, either the scallop with aji amarillo tartare and crispy capers or the beef hearts with aja panca and rocoto salsa, are packed with flavor, while the ceviche also delivers with an added crunch courtesy of deep-fried plantains. Duck sausage over a bed of cilantro-spiked rice studded with spinach and choclo is another hit. Finish with a slice of their key lime pie.Llamita Inn, their small Manhattan outpost, specializes in Peruvian rotisserie chicken and causa."

"Bib Gourmand 2024 A la carte: $70 Upbeat, modern and cool, Llama Inn pays respect to all styles of Peruvian cooking but with the technical flair of Chef Erik Ramirez who has trained in New York's top restaurants. The result is a fresh, fun and spontaneous cuisine that aims to elevate Peruvian food. Anticuchos, either the scallop with aji amarillo tartare and crispy capers or the beef hearts with aja panca and rocoto salsa, are packed with flavor, while the ceviche also delivers with a blast of tart notes courtesy of the leche de tigre. Come with a foursome to tuck into larger entrees like branzino patarascha. Served with aji amarillo, salsa criolla, choclo and coconut rice, it reflects the country's breadth of ingredients. Finish with a slice of their key lime pie."
