"This Williamsburg paean to pasta is in a former garage with exposed-beam wooden ceilings. Chef-owner Missy Robbins is one of New York’s finest pasta chefs. People come here for all sorts of carby stuff: rigatoni diavola, gnocchi, and ravioli. Start, though, with some cacio e pepe fritelle, gorgeous fried balls decked out with salty cheese and pepper, and move on to seafood, another Robbins strong suit. Maybe today’s the day for grilled clams flecked with Calabrian chilies? Cured sardines with capers? It’s all good. But, the absolute must-order dish is the mafaldini, a rippled noodle spiked with pink peppercorns. Reservations are hard to come by (you may need to book a month in advance) but snagging one is well worth the constant refreshes of Resy."

"Nath’s reco | À la carte $60 | ⚠️ Closed for lunch CHIC ITALIAN Launched by chef Missy Robbins - who caught Barack Obama's eye when she worked at Spiaggia in Chicago - Lilia is the kind of place where fashion editors like to host informal dinners. Evoking an atmosphere of industrial-chic with floor-to-ceiling windows, this former garage could almost be a nightclub. Handmade pasta and seafood dishes, all expertly prepared, are certainly worth the wait if all the tables, including those on the pavement, are already taken. There is also a very pleasant café for early morning nibbles. Chef-owner Missy Robbins is one of New York’s finest pasta chefs. "This large, renovated garage space on the scissoring intersection of Union Avenue and North 10th Street in Williamsburg is the popular home of Missy Robbins, who began her career in Chicago, where she found fame as “Obama’s favorite pasta chef,” before taking over the kitchen, to great acclaim, at the now defunct, haute Italian restaurant A Voce in midtown. Compared to those grandiose operations, this restaurant has a modest, utilitarian feel (the bar area is bustling during the afterwork hours, and the café operation during the day sells pastries and excellent panini stuffed with ribbons of prosciutto or burrata cheese). The menu isn’t as ambitious as back in the Robbins heyday, but it’s difficult to argue with the talented chef’s restrained small-plates dishes, like puffy, golden fritters flavored in the manner of the Roman pasta dish cacio e pepe, tangles of perfectly al dente spaghetti tossed with lemon, chiles, and toasted bread crumbs, and the justly famous house agnolotti, which Robbins and her small army of pasta cooks fill with warm deposits of sheeps’ milk cheese faintly sweetened with honey."

"pink peppercorn mafaldine Missy Robbins deserves a medal for her unmatched pasta-making skills. We guess a James Beard Award for Best Chef in New York City will suffice. Although getting a table at Lillia may feel like a superhuman task, if you set your mind to something, anything is possible. Reservations are available on Resy thirty days in advance, but make sure to look out for new reservations releasing every day at 10 am. The Pink Peppercorn Malfadini is worth every early morning heart attack. Chef Missy Robbins surprised everyone by leaving swanky A Voce (since closed) to helm this uncomplicated Italian spot in a reformatted Williamsburg car-repair shop. However, no one has been surprised by its success. She's often present, flitting between the pared-back high-ceilinged dining room and the kitchen, preparing sublime pasta that runs the gamut from corzetti to mafaldini, accompanied by just a few ingredients - perhaps tangy sheep's cheese, spicy lamb sausage, anchovy, pine nuts, speck or pink peppercorns. When the swordfish is pulled out of the wood-fired grill, the aroma may temporarily transport you to the Amalfi Coast. Between 7am and 4pm, Lilia operates only as a café; stop by for the bomboloni or a prosciutto panino. 567 Union Avenue, T718 576 3095, www.lilianewyork.com"

"Gabby’s List - excellent and infatuation - Every year, we think to ourselves, “Maybe this is when Lilia will become easier to get into.” And every year, we wind up disappointed. Lilia remains one of the toughest tables in town, and people still plan visits to this Williamsburg restaurant the way art dealers collect Basquiats or crypto-bros accumulate NFTs. Coming here grants you access to a special society: those who have eaten at the city’s most exclusive Italian restaurants. But the main reason to fuss over getting a table at this restaurant is the simple, perfect pasta. The rigatoni diavola arrives with just enough mildly spicy tomato sauce to fully coat the ribbed housemade noodles, and the agnolotti stuffed with sheep's milk cheese come perfectly al dente and painted with a honey-saffron butter sauce. At the end of your meal, order the gelato with olive oil, and enjoy it as you devise an elaborate scheme to get another reservation here."
