"Il y a un dress code en fonction du restaurant ou bar ou espace de l'hôtel dans lequel on se trouve. Dans certains endroits, la veste de costume est de rigueur, dans d'autres un style smart casual suffit. Les shorts et jeans déchirés ou lavés ne sont permis nul part dans l'hôtel. Tout cela est précisé sur internet. Donc ne pas aller à cet hôtel sans les tenues adaptées dans ma valise. J'ai entendu dans une vidéo visite de cet hôtel que l'insonorisation n'est pas très bonne, et qu'on entend le bruit du trafic dans la rue dans la nuit et qu'ils se sont réveillés en pleine nuit à cause de cela. Ça peut sentir un peu les cigarettes dans l'hôtel, les chambres. C'est un hôtel ancien, avec un mobilier ancien dans les chambres aussi, je pense que je préférerais plutôt des hôtels modernes, avec une architecture intérieure des chambres plus contemporaine. Pour toutes ces raisons, je pense que je préférerais séjourner au Shangri-La The Shard, qui est en hauteur car c'est une tour (donc logiquement on devrait pas entendre la rue), plus moderne et technologique, et j'espère que ça ne sentira pas la cigarette."

Above all there was the renovation of the Rivoli Bar (which serves the best-presented cocktails in London) and the acquisition of the magnificent William Kent House next door (César Ritz's dream ever since he built the hotel in 1906). Yet the main public spaces—including the adored Palm Court and dining room, aligned along the sumptuous gallery that runs the length of the building, from Arlington Street at one end to Green Park at the other—remain little changed. Here you still have a sense, enhanced by the rich, warm, golden glow of this part of the hotel, of having found yourself preserved in amber. No celebrity interior-designers have been let loose on the rooms, which retain their original Louis XVI style and a lustrous palette of pinks, yellows, and blues. Ravishing. Tea is served in the hotel’s Palm Court, deliciously grand and swimming in gold with a live pianist or harpist at every sitting. Tea-takers select from a list of 20 types. They can learn as much or as little about the teas as they wish from the friendly but reassuringly formal staff, who not only know the correct way to make tea (milk first, obviously) but have spent many months in Sri Lanka, tasting and experimenting to bring back the perfect blend. On to the food itself, which, as you might expect, is proudly traditional. Sandwiches are fresh, crustless, finger-sized and not shy of a cucumber slice or two, and the scones are warm, gigantic, and accompanied by strawberry jam and lashings of Cornish clotted cream.
