"Mallet-Stevens Rue Mallet-Stevens, in the Auteuil district, powerfully illustrates the architectural and aesthetic theories developed by Robert Mallet-Stevens (1886-1945) from 1917. Author of the entire initial subdivision commissioned by the rich man of business Daniel Dreyfus, the architect chose to deploy the route on the model of Parisian villas. The impasse inaugurated on July 20, 1927 begins at number 9 rue du Docteur Blanche. An open-air page of history of the modern movement, it embodies the momentum of formal renewal of residential architecture during the interwar period in Paris. The homogeneous sequence designed as a hollow space sculpted by the architect, is one of the major works of Robert Mallet-Stevens . Each private residence - five hotels and a caretaker's house - belongs to a large ensemble, an indivisible architectural body. During construction, Mallet-Stevens uses innovative materials, notably reinforced concrete whose technical properties make it possible to create ample space. The cubic and cylindrical volumes pierced by large bay windows are topped by roof terraces arranged in tiers. In addition to the boldness of the shapes, there is the purity of the smooth facades covered with a white coating. The architect puts his talent, his sense of space and his taste for natural light, at the service of rational, functional, universal modernity."
