"2 Michelin stars 2026 (new) The name of Jason Atherton’s flagship operation is short for ‘Refinement of Work’ – and indeed there is a great deal of refinement in every inch of this mightily impressive restaurant. The premises, on the iconic Savile Row, have been fitted out with no-expense-spared luxury, while the service is charming and attentive in equal measure. Chef Spencer Metzger leads the kitchen, taking outstanding British produce and adding depth of flavour with unerring skill – as in the sika deer with a sublime sauce flavoured with red fruit and beetroot. The wine list, as you may expect, is an oenophile's delight."

"Jason Atherton is on a roll in London this year, with five new restaurants opening since he called time on Pollen Street Social. The most recent, Row on 5 (with former Ritz head chef Spencer Metzger) is his most daring of all. There’s no à la carte — just a 15-course tasting menu (£198.50 per person) served to Atherton’s trademark soundtrack of pop and rock (AC/DC, Bob Dylan, Dexys Midnight Runners). There’s unstuffy fun with his take on a cheese and onion crisp sandwich; the best scallop I’ve ever eaten carpeted with ikura (salmon) roe and bathing in a smoky broth; a deep-fried taro bun filled with slow-cooked venison; and an absurdly creamy and umami bowl of mashed potato with N25 Kaluga caviar. The wine list by Roxane Dupuy, formerly the sommelier at Sketch, offers 4,200 bottles and covers most bases. There’s a touch of The Menu to proceedings, but if anyone can add a bit of earthiness to the hyper-elevated it’s Atherton."

"After ringing a doorbell to gain admittance, guests are led into a wine cellar-lined lounge filled with 4,500 bottles. One temperature-controlled room contains vintage Champagne, another all the list’s red and white wines while a glass-walled cabinet displays the Romanée Conti collection of Atherton and wife Irha, held aloft on silver hands modelled on Atherton’s own. Preliminary snacks are eaten down here before diners are ushered upstairs for the remainder of their 15-course tasting menu in an intimate 28-cover dining room where half the floor space is taken up by a Smallbone open kitchen. Other partnerships include Occhio lighting and Sorrells wine rooms, built with sustainable British wood. Sponsorship never looked so palatable. The Food: stars in their eyes. Atherton’s executive chef is Spencer Metzger, the former head chef of The Ritz who recently won two Michelin stars within six months of Row on 45 opening in Dubai. The technique that goes into each miniature dish might be labour-intensively intricate but with each course delivered by the chef who made it, the experience feels personal rather than pretentious. Ingredients are selected to highlight best-of-British produce, from Orkney scallops and Cornish turbot to the Scottish ceps and Colston Bassett Stilton on the vegetarian menu. "
