"From Vittles: The problem with Soho is it’s always too busy. I’d drink in The French House all the time if I could, but there’s never any room (I don’t mind standing outside, but my girlfriend hates it). That’s why we all usually end up at Glasshouse Stores, that Sam Smith’s pub where you can always find a seat. Pre-pandemic, when Glasshouse Stores’ cavernous basement was always open, my friends and I would spend entire Saturdays holed up in there, drinking glass after glass of cheap, fizzy lager. The basement’s returned lately, but the main rooms are pretty spacious too, plus they have the benefit of natural light. It’s a pretty pub with lots of embossed wallpaper, engraved mirrors and delightful shades of brown; there’s also a bar billiards table and a dartboard that gets a lot of use, a rarity round here. It’s the Wong Kei of London pubs, in that it allows you to be spontaneous in the middle of town, without being ripped off or having to book. IR"
