"You can buy tickets at the entrance"

@gabrielaesguevillas

"UNESCO World Heritage One of the best-known symbols of Beijing, the Temple of Heaven and Earth was built during the reign of Emperor Zhu Di (also known as Yongiel) who reigned from 1402 until 1424. Its name was shortened in the sixteenth century, during the reign of Emperor lajing. The temple was used to offer sacrifices to heaven. The site is laid out on a north south axis. At the south end the site is square shaped, symbolizing the earth: the norther end is semicircular and raised above the south end, representing heaven. Constructed in 1530 and rebuilt in 1740, the circular altar is a white marble, three-layered, terraced structure. Ming and Oing emperors offered sacrifices to heaven here at the winter solstice. Surrounding the entrance to the Imperial Vault of Heaven is the Echo Wall, where a whisper can travel 213 feet (65 m). The vault, built at the same time as the altar, is similar in design to the older Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests and was used to house memorial tablets dedicated to the emperor's ancestors, which were used in the winter solstice ceremony. Dominating the camplex is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, which performed an important ceremonial role. Sitting on a three-tiered marble terrace, the building is supported by twenty eight pillars. The toner circle of four represents the seasons, the next twelve represents the months of the year, and the remaining twelve represents shichen (each day was divided into twelve shichen) Inscribed as a World Heritage site in 1998, the Temple of Heaven is a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design that simply and graphically illustrates a cosmogony of great importance for the evolution of one of the world's great civilizations. The symbolic layout and design of the Temple of Heaven had a profound influence on architecture and planning in the Far East over many centuries."
