"Tlecan is a mezcalería in Mexico City’s Roma Norte neighborhood, celebrated for its dedication to artisanal agave spirits and pre-Hispanic cultural heritage. The bar’s name, meaning “place of fire” in Náhuatl, reflects its homage to ancient traditions, evident in its design featuring earthy tones, incense aromas, and a replica of the Aztec “Disc of Death” sculpture. Under the guidance of co-owner and former Pujol beverage director Eli Martínez Bello, Tlecan offers a curated selection of rare agave distillates sourced directly from small-scale producers across Mexico. Signature cocktails include the Paloma Blanca, crafted with carbonated clarified grapefruit juice and mezcal, and the Tascalate Sour, inspired by a traditional Maya beverage made from maize, cacao, and achiote. The bar operates on a standing-room-only basis, fostering a dynamic and social atmosphere.
