"Here to fly the flag for Britain amongst a sea of impoverished European beer reviews we have the great stalwart of true London watering holes - the Samuel Smiths Brewery. Upon entering The Lyceum Tavern located on the heroic Strand, one is engulfed in an atmosphere of oak wall panelling, leather lined drinking booths and the eyes of many dead aristocrats watching from the walls. Cock the elbow, nod the head and engage the bartender in swift dialogue of beer ordering prowess. Soon a pint of Pure Brewery Organic Lager and Oak Casked Best Bitter grace the well worn bar top and I retire to my central table to enjoy such a magnificent jar. Smooth, fresh, crisp, enduring head and full bodied taste. Britain knows how to beer. Fan of the historic pump logo, part of the charm. Also illuminated. Nice. Yes. Simply put - 8/10 for the lager and 9.25/10 for the ale. Rule Britannia 🫡"

"The Strand is hardly short of pubs, with the nearby Harp and the Porterhouse marking some of the best drinking spots in Covent Garden. However, the Lyceum Tavern has an appeal all of its own. You’ll find many of the typical Sam Smith’s tropes here — an inviting exterior, cosy bar and wooden panelling, along with incredibly cheap drinks, relative to the area."
