Sibley Gardens

"I’m learning a lot about Downriver Detroit thanks to my Michigan’s Best colleague, Amy Sherman. She’s originally from Wyandotte, and over the last several years she has introduced me to many of her favorites in the area, including Sibley Gardens. It was a Top 10 pick in our 2019 search for Michigan’s Most Iconic Restaurant. Established in 1935, a trip to Sibley Gardens is a step back into a different era of dining. A time when regulars sat in the same tables and booths on their weekly visits, ordered their favorite cocktail, an appetizer and made an evening of it. It’s old school, which means they have a big menu (more than 45 items) and you either order one of the specials or “the usual.” Frog legs are regularly on the menu with plenty for everyone at the table to share. (And we have done so on more than one occasion.) If it’s your first visit, the wonderful wait staff will take you through the menu and make recommendations.
