"Café de Tacuba has been in business for well over 100 years, and it’s worth a visit just to admire the art, décor, and architecture. But you won’t be disappointed by the food. Give yourself some time with the menu, since there are lots of classic Mexican dishes to choose from, including different types of enchiladas, tamales, and beef, pork, chicken, and fish meals. They’re open for breakfast as well. Try to have some change or small bills on hand, since there’s a good chance a mariachi band will be entertaining you and you may want to tip them. And here’s a fun bit of trivia: Café de Tacuba was the inspiration for the name of our favorite Mexican rock band."

"Dark wood, ornate azulejos and gilded mirrors make a coffee break in this storied café a delight. It was opened by don Dionisio Mollinedo, known as Papá Nicho, in 1912 and has been a favoured haunt of artists, writers, journalists and a generally eccentric clientele ever since. The typical Mexican coffee - served in a small, viscous concentrate and then diluted with hot milk, poured from great heights - is heavily roasted and served with pastries. The cafe is open until 23.30 to service the Mexican habit of sipping coffee long after sunset."
