"Launched as a pandemic takeout operation, San Ho Won opened in the Mission District in November. Ferried by the promise of high-end grilled meats as well as the reputation of its owner, the chef behind Michelin-starred Benu, the restaurant has been one of the region’s tougher reservations to snag. Juicy beef tongue ($48), thick slabs of short rib galbi ($46) and whole Cornish hens ($36) are grilled over odorless lychee wood charcoal and served with best-in-class banchan and dipping sauces. A “house menu” ($94) of family-style dishes comes with a flurry of meats and smaller dishes, like a wobbly egg soufflé (gyeranjjim), which gets an oceanic overtone with seaweed sauce and anchovy broth. San Ho Won’s bingsu looks like a cook opened the back door, dipped a metal bowl into a snowdrift and called it a day. Skim the top of the surface with a spoon and there will be nothing to dispel this illusion; the ice is the texture of fresh powder. But dig down and you’ll uncover treasures — cubes of mango jelly, tiny tapioca pearls, segments of pomelo and coconut milk. If you’re not a fruity dessert person, go for the buckwheat soft serve, adorned with puffs of charred buckwheat and drips of honey, or the decadent choux buns filled with chocolate cream."

"The galbi from San Ho Won is the best in San Francisco. Each short rib has caramelized edges and lines of fat we can only describe as luxurious. It’s flat-out memorable, but so is the rest of the meal at this Korean restaurant in the Mission. Which is why we've already deemed it one of the very best restaurants in SF. The scallion-covered egg soufflé is so light it could float off the table. Spicy chicken tteokbokki arrives bubbling. And the beef neck fillet and chunjang-glazed pork ribs get a smoky char from the lychee wood charcoal grill. Unless you can hack Tock, set your calendar 29 days in advance to snag a reservation. It's not easy to get a table here."

"San Hon Won, named best new restaurant in the US by the Robb Report, is a Korean barbecue spot in the mission. I’ve been trying to hit this place for months since it opened - finally got to try it for my dear friends birthday. We opted for the prix fixe although they do offer a standard menu. The egg soufflé was delectable and so were the dumplings which looked and tasted like none I’d had before. The churi (beef neck fillet) and galbi (prime beef short rib) were delectable. I also enjoyed the bibimbap which was a unique take on a traditional dish. 8.75/10"
