"80s/90s vibe. The food is very yummy and the vibes are chill"

"Hungry Eyes is an ’80s-inspired restaurant and bar located at 4206 Magazine Street in New Orleans. Opened in 2023 by Mason Hereford and his team behind Turkey and the Wolf, it offers a playful yet refined dining experience with a menu of globally influenced small plates designed to pair with an inventive cocktail program. Signature dishes include artichoke hearts on the half shell, seafood turmeric curry, and crab boil potatoes with toum, all served in a vibrant setting featuring neon lights and retro décor."

"By the people from Turkey and the Wolf American One of the top places in the city to sit at the bar with some small plates (get the roasted artichokes) and an interesting cocktail or two. "

"Best New 2023 Eating at the eighties-themed Hungry Eyes feels like you’ve stepped into a music video by Duran Duran. The Patrick Nagel pop art on the walls, the pink neon glow from the mirror behind the bar—it’s lit. Literally. The team has cooked up a lively, stonery DIY dinner menu. Save the garlicky toum dip that comes with your fries, order a side of roti, and make fun sandwiches with the pastrami, which is grilled until crispy on the outside. Who does that? The same folks who brought you NOLA’s stoner darling, Turkey & the Wolf. —O.M."

"Very fun atmosphere, small plates meant to share. Small menu, kind of pricey. "

"In New Orleans, where so many menus draw connections between place, plate and heart, earnestness is the most common denominator. Mason Hereford’s restaurants, by contrast, stand out for their insouciance. Like the chef’s very popular sandwich shop, Turkey and the Wolf, Hungry Eyes is basically a loose assortment of things he likes, including batched cocktails and the 1980s. Those themes define Hungry Eyes — a partnership between Mr. Hereford, his wife, Lauren Agudo, and Phil Cenac, the restaurant’s head chef — and somehow yield great ideas for food, like caramelized pastrami lettuce wraps, pan-roasted calamari curry and a deliciously ingenious dish of artichoke hearts that are cooked and served like broiled oysters."
