"68 rooms from CHF 272 to 450 COMFORT AND ORIGINALITY The funniest thing is that this hotel built on the Marktplatz seems to have always been there, while the building housed a hi-fi and household appliances shop for years. This perfect boutique hotel consists of two buildings: one of neo-baroque style, the other of Neues Bauen style, in vogue in the 1920s, while the city was in full expansion. Ideally located in the heart of Basel, surrounded by restored medieval buildings - the town hall (Rathaus) in particular - and an opulent market that can be admired from the terrace, Märthof was completely redesigned by the architects Burckhardt+Partner. Interior designer Iria Degen created sixty-eight rooms and suites with absolute comfort (including ecological air conditioning), with open bathrooms - a successful functional originality; architect Leslie Nader was in charge of the restaurant overlooking the Marktplatz, where delicious local fruits and cheeses are served for breakfast. Until October 2025, the work of the contiguous Globus continues; however, the discomfort remains minimal as the soundproofing of the hotel is effective. It remains to admire the huge protective tarpaulin, the work of the artist Claudia Comte, inaugurated as it should be during Art Basel 2023."
