Cafe Mogador Williamsburg
Cafe Mogador Williamsburg : restaurant marocain & brunch à Brooklyn

"A little over a year ago, Cafe Mogador opened a new location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This mom-and-pop restaurant has been striving strong for over 30 years on St. Marks Place in the heart of the East Village. I can’t compare locations because I haven’t been to the NYC location, but this Northside eatery is quaint with vintage Moroccan-inspired decor extending into the charming enclosed patio area. Mediterranean food has so many variations depending on, which culture it derives from. I usually choose Greek, if I’m jonesing hummus and/or lamb. I’m the type of foodie, to always switch it up from time to time. The moment you walk through the door, you can instantly smell the charred pita bread being warmed up. For starters, I ordered hummus [of course] roasted eggplant and tahini. In comparison to Greek, I find Moroccan-style pita to be fluffier and more bread-like. The harissa had a nice delayed kick. It spruced up, the flavoring of the dips and took it to another level. One downside to the service, is that the food takes a while to come out. It’s definitely freshly made, but I honestly think it’s because the method of cooking they use. My dish was cooked in a tagine. If you’re not familiar with the term, it’s a ceramic pot that slow cooks food. The lamb in a charmoulla [spicy cilantro sauce] fell off the bone. Not sure, if it was the cut of lamb or the method of cooking; but the meat didn’t have an overpowering lamb taste. The spices explode in your mouth leaving an authentic experience. My dish came with a side of basmati rice, which mixed well with the leftover sauce. The grilled mixed platter has a variety of cuts. The merguez smothered in white sauce was to die for. Overall, the amount of time it took to get my food was well worth the wait, in my opinion."
