This place is always packed and humming with a crowd, both outside on the breezy patio and indoors in the contemporary, inviting dining room. The new American menu is well-designed and tightly focused. From the in-house fermentation program and freshly ground heirloom grains figuring prominently on the menu to strong ties with many of Texas's small farms, there's a commitment to sustainability here. Yellowfin tuna crudo tucked with strawberries and cucumber is a refreshing opener before tucking into a plate of house-made cacio e pepe. Velvety and satisfying, it's been on the menu since the very beginning. "

"Wonderful dinner. Water said shared plates but more like tapas. We should have ordered more. French ravioli was delicious! We were table of four but would like to go back as a twosome and sit at chef’s counter. Felt like the counter got a deeper explanation of dishes as they were served. Depending on who brought our dish , we got in-depth knowledge or NO knowledge. "

New American cuisine is served dim sum–style, which translates to best-of-the-farmers’-market small bites that come around on a cart as you work through your mains. Chef Kevin Fink cut his teeth at Copenhagen’s Noma, which is reason enough to come here, and the resolutely seasonal, farmers’ haul influence is apparent on every plate. "The very best food on Rainey Street. This smallish restaurant at the south end serves small plates made with local ingredients, which means the menu changes daily. Try some of the regularly appearing menu all-stars like the cacio e pepe or the short rib carnitas. And keep an eye out for the dim sum-style cart that rolls around with other dishes to try, like miso-roasted carrots or grilled avocado with radish and jalapeño. It’s a special occasion kind of place, not really an “I’ve been drinking all day on Rainey Street and now I’m hungry” spot, so plan accordingly."

Emmer & Rye is the first contemporary American restaurant in Austin to offer dim sum service as part of their meal, where guests are able to order items directly off of circulating carts, along with a weekly rotating menu using local farm-to-table ingredients. Emmer & Rye is currently serving a 6-course tasting menu that requires reservations in advance. We are borderline obsessed with the dining experience at Emmer and Rye. If you’re looking for the best restaurants in Austin, this downtown restaurant is at the top of our list- literally. The food here is nothing short of brilliant- new American cuisine served in a dim sum style. You’ll be enjoying lots of small bites or shared plates and if your server recommends something take their lead. The only thing that never leaves the Emmer and Rye menu is the cacio e pepe, which is the best cacio e pepe you will have in your life."
