"⚠️ Not opened for lunch Michelin Guide mention 2025 Cultura’s cooking is inspired by the cuisine of Mexico, with particular attention paid to the region of Oaxaca. It might not be the right place to take abuela for an authentic taste of home, but the food is very good. Tucked among shops in a courtyard away from the street, this dining room resembles a sort of Mexican taberna, lined with deep red booths, coffered ceilings and wrought-iron accents. On fair nights, dine alfresco around the courtyard’s fire pits. Try the house-made Cultura mole with smoked pork, which arrives as a feast of freshly made tortillas and lightly pickled vegetable slaw for assemble-your-own tacos. Save room for desserts like the dense and dark Oaxacan chocolate brownie with a touch of chili and cinnamon cloaked in ganache."

"Three veterans of Sierra Mar in nearby Big Sur opened this casual modern Mexican restaurant last year, and it’s still one of Carmel’s hottest tickets. Although the menu is broken up into appetizer and entree-sized options, you can build a great meal here by ordering a bunch of stuff to share for the table, tapas-style. Consider trying the epazote quesadilla, the tostada topped with local squid, and the grilled skirt steak with ancho chile and smoked onions."

"Cultura Comida y Bebida was another favorite Mexican food, California style. The menu highlights Oaxacan cuisine and local ingredients, and it was a great place for our group to enjoy a fun dinner our last night in time. I will definitely be going back for breakfast on my next trip—the menu looks amazing!!"

" In a city sated with French and Italian eating options, Cultura is a breath of fresh worm-salted air. Founded by Sarah Kabat-Marcy and John Cox (of Sierra Mar/Post Ranch), the Oaxacan-inspired restaurant includes a dining room, lounge, and outdoor firepits. Cultura offers a seasonal menu of fresh, artistic dishes that range from $4 street tacos to $95 Wagyu ribeye. The full bar features a hand-picked selection of mezcals, offered on their own or in flights of three, along with traditional chapulines (grasshoppers), local orange slices, and sal de gusano (worm salt). Lunch and late-night menus available."
