"Housed in the Alki Homestead, a landmark Douglas fir log cabin built in 1904 that sat fire-damaged and derelict for a decade before being restored, Il Nido ("the nest") opened in 2019 as the passion project of James Beard-nominated pasta chef Mike Easton (and now thrives under its current owners, executive chef Katie Gallego and manager Cameron Williams, who trained under Easton and took over in 2022). The Tuscan-inspired menu revolves around seasonal handmade pastas (ribbon noodles with beef and pork ragù, maccheroni with gorgonzola fonduta and artichokes) alongside double-cut rib eyes and pristine Pacific Northwest seafood, all served in a warmly lit room of antler chandeliers and a great stone fireplace. Worth the trek to West Seattle's Alki neighborhood, but book well in advance—tables fill up the moment the 30-day reservation window opens. "At Il Nido, the meal begins with antipasti and salads—say, a Caesar with chicories. Then it's on to the pasta, lightly sauced so the noodles shine. Chef Mike Easton is a pasta master, and you can't go wrong; busiati, torcheietti—order them all. The star of the secondi section is the charred ribeye. Simple, perfect desserts include a berry-topped panna cotta, gelato, and tiramisu. If you don't have a reservation, head over ahead of the 4 p.m. opening time; the bar takes walk-ins and serves antipasti for the first hour, followed by the full dinner menu."

"Renowned chef Mike Easton — known for the critically-acclaimed Pioneer Square spot Il Corvo — has created another winner with his newest West Seattle Italian restaurant at the historic Alki Homestead. The menu’s stars are fantastic pastas (such as bucatini with cacio e pepe and saffron cavatelli with octopus), thoughtful vegetable offerings, and a grilled ribeye that might have been 2019’s best dish. The setting is also pure Seattle: a warm dining room that preserves the rustic spirit of a 117 year-old former log cabin right near the beach."
