"Certain restaurants make you feel like you’ve made the right decision as soon as you walk in the door – and manteca is one of them. It’s always busy, always full of life and always run with a calm confidence that allows everyone to relax. The Italian menu is also something that’ll always excite; its dishes are designed for sharing and every one of them comes with flavour turned up to the max, whether it’s the whole wood-roasted John Dory, the ’nduja steamed mussels, or the malloreddus with pork and fennel ragu. Be sure to check out their in-house pasta workshop and their salumeria."

"When fresh-pasta spot 10 Heddon Street closed after spending a few months at the top of everyone’s social-media feeds in summer 2019, the central London restaurant scene felt the loss. The collaboration between Smokestak’s David Carter and Chris Leach, previously of Kitty Fisher’s and Petersham Nurseries, quickly made most of the city’s best-restaurants lists. A follow-up opened near Oxford Circus a little while later, and in 2021 they opened in a permanent home in Shoreditch. The team here aims to offer nose-to-tail cooking. The main event is the pasta: order as many dishes as you think you can finish between your party. Silky pappardelle is served with rich ox-cheek ragu while tonnarelli is tossed in simple cacio e pepe sauce, elevated with the addition of brown crab. Embrace the Italian way of life and go for a full-on aperitivo – most cocktails are made with amaro, an Italian bitter. The pop-up is back for good, and every hungry soul in London is better off for it."

@
"Focaccia excellente, pappardelle hogget Rago monstrueuse!!

"This is at the moment my favorite Italian place in London. It’s very tuscan and explores meat as an intrinsic part of the Italian cuisine, which it definitely is, but just not worldly recognized as other staples like pasta. It is also very innovative but you can track with every bite how tradition remains in the DNA of every dish. The menu changes on a weekly basis depending on ingredients availability so you can find completely different items from one week to the next, or the same dish with slight variations. But quality remains and service is king. The local is super minimalistic and the kitchen is open. I really haven’t tried a dish I didn’t like and boy believe me when I tell you that I’ve tried most of the items in the menu. You’ll see pictured: 1) Duck ragu fazzoletti🔥 2) Porchetta with salsa verde🔥 3) Brown crab Cacio e pepe 4) Beef battuta, egg yolk dressing, dandelion 5) Rigattoni, kale sauce and chilli🔥 6) N’duja steamed mussels, cream and parsley 7) Duck liver parfait + date jam🔥 8) Fried olive, noccellara, pork and veal sausage 9) Beef shin ragú strozzapreti🔥 10) Blood orange winter citrus with burn meringue Apart from this don’t miss the pork skin ragú (if you can find it), the chocolate and olive oil tart, the pig head fritti and the wild mushroom ragú. The absolute stars are the duck ragú fazzoletti and the beef shin ragú strozzapreti, they are never together in the same menu but I’ve tried both in different days and they’re literally fireworks. I really can’t recommend you enough to visit @manteca_london 🙌🏼"

"Anglo-italien / recommandé par Jackson Boxer, le Cornerstore, Time Out, Esquire et London Eater Les pâtes sont dingues, surtout les brown crab cacio et pepe qui sont très souvent au menu (aussi des excellentes duck ragu pasta) / super pig skin ragu / order some bread to mop up the sauce / le pain et salami ont l’air bon / papa"

"a nose-to-tail italian-inspired restaurant. we focus on whole-animal butchery, hand-rolled pastas, wood-fired breads, and our own in-house salumeria. an amari-focused cocktail list. the wine list celebrates low-intervention and classic fine wines from italy, broader europe, and further afield north america."
@
"Okayish.. over seasoned pasta :/ asked for focaccia they brought sourdough with few (2 leaves) of Rosmary (well at least something authentic). Italian will get offended for sure, even I’ve got mhm… nice ricotta with figs and nuts, however proportions are not great. 3 slices of figs and 2 spoons of ricotta, oh well.. "

"What’s the deal? David Carter and Chris Leach’s long-underrated, itinerant Anglo-Italian went permanent in Shoreditch at the end of 2021. The excellent menu skews both refined and rugged: what fool wouldn’t want to follow brown crab cacio e pepe with a stuffed pig’s snout? Price ££ Order this The pig skin ragù – devised to reduce waste in the kitchen, buried under a blizzard of parmesan and crowned with cloud-light pork crackling."

"“Manteca translates to mean pork fat in Spanish. But it’s also the title of a Dizzy Gillespie song. I listened to the track and thought: ‘That’s it, that’s the vibe.’ The name just worked for what I wanted to do here. To me, restaurants are an emotional experience. They are a sum of parts: the food could be amazing, but if the atmosphere isn’t right, the restaurant won’t succeed. There needs to be harmony between the two."

"You might have eaten Manteca’s tonnarelli with brown crab cacio e pepe in another guise back in 2019, when chefs David Carter and Chris Leach held a residency at 10 Heddon Street. Now, that the pair have a permanent site in Shoreditch, you can expect pasta dishes with a nod to nose-to-tail cooking. Like their staple dish of silken handkerchiefs glazed in a rich duck ragù and studded with garlicky, duck-fat breadcrumbs. And there’s an equal ratio of meat to vegetable with just as big flavours. Go for the rigatoni with kale sauce: it’s beautifully bold with a hit of chilli."
