"Welcome to the cultural center of Puebla - The ZĂłcalo. A ZĂłcalo basically describes the main square of a town or city in Mexico but this one is simply one of the best preserved ones in the country, plus it was recently remodeled. In the style of ancient Spain, the city of Puebla was founded around a central park, a building that served as the Municipal Palace and a church that in this case was the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. In viceregal times, the ZĂłcalo had other functions since this was where the sentences of the Court as well as theatric events and celebrations were carried out. Today, it is a spacious square and park where the city comes together. Enjoy the architecture, acts, street vendors and busy vibe and don't forget to explore the area by yourself. If you feel lost here a small collection of sights you shouldn't miss: - Biblioteca Palafoxiana - Calle de Dulces - Pasaje del Ayuntamiento - Museo Amparo - Museo San Pedro de Arte - JardĂn del Arte - Catedral de Puebla - Templo de Santo Domingo - La CompañĂa - Templo Expiatorio del EspĂritu Santo - FundaciĂłn JosĂ© Luis Bello - Barrio del Artista - Mercado del ArtesanĂas El PariĂĄn - Los Sapos & CallejĂłn de los Sapos Local food specialties are: - Cemitas Poblanos (our absolute recommendation is "Cemitas Las Poblanitas" in the "Mercado del Carmen" (approx. 1km from the ZĂłcalo) - Mole Poblano - Chalupas"
