Take your pick from amenities that include an in-room tent and scavenger hunt for the little ones with the Camp Peninsula package, or head out into the city with a children’s map of places to explore, available from the concierge. During the winter, the Peninsula is home to the only hotel skating rink in Chicago. Guests can enjoy this winter wonderland with hot drinks and snacks from the chalet."

"This high-rise hotel might be home to the city’s best-kept secret: a sprawling, 80-foot pool some 19 floors up, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a view you can’t peel your eyes from. But what stunned me most on my first visit was the fact that it’s rarely crowded. You could easily spend all day there in unperturbed bliss—while waiting for my spa appointment, I overheard a woman check in for her 9 a.m. massage, 11 a.m. pedicure, and 1 p.m. manicure. I wondered why I didn’t have the foresight to block off a whole day to alternate between spa treatments and dips in the pool. Fortunately, there’s plenty of relaxing to be done in the guest rooms, many of which are more spacious than a Chicago apartment. You know a hotel is at the top of its game when the towels are so plush they feel as though they were woven on-site and there are neatly labeled amenity drawers so you don’t have to pry each one open to find what you’re looking for. Peninsula hotels are known for their intuitive technology (in-room tablets let you control the lights, request housekeeping, and check your flight status), but what I most look forward to are the unparalleled blackout shades. "As Chicago's hotel scene adds more and more modern brands, this nearly two-decade old spot stays rock steady with a classic spa on the nineteenth floor, a refined bar scene, and a dim sum garden in a nod to the brand's Eastern roots. It's opulent and moneyed, but for all that wealth not stuffy—a grandeur you can live with. What’s the crowd like? Well-traveled sophisticates. Celebrities not uncommon. The good stuff: Tell us about the rooms. Generously residential: Even the smallest rooms, include a couch and small dining table for two by the picture windows. Serene neutrals-with-blue-accents color scheme. They're also completely wired so that you needn't move from the bed to control lighting, temperature, curtains, or the "do not disturb" sign. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us? The beds are downy and delicious, of course. How about the little things, like mini-bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth mentioning? The Bernardaud China provided for your morning Nespresso drink is enviable. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. If there's a hotel worth checking into just for the bathroom, the Peninsula Chicago is it. The marble bathroom is huge and comes with a 19-inch TV inset near the soaking tub if you want to watch while you bathe. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? Excellent and included. Room service: What's on offer? It might not jump out at you, but try the congee for breakfast. There are also plenty of options for travelers with dietary restrictions, including vegan and gluten-free dishes. Anything we missed that we should have asked about? The ESPA spa is its own attraction, with a real Zen vibe. It adjoins the top floor pool, flanked by an entire wall of windows allowing you to swim laps while ogling the architecture. The bar is a real hideaway for both guests and in-the-know locals, with its casual elegance (yes, that's a Le Corbusier on the wall), gas fireplace, and low lighting. There are three other restaurants, and they are all quite distinct from one another, including the lobby lounge, which is popular for tea; a café at street level with scrumptious tarte flambé; and the ruby-toned Shanghai Terrace serving authentic Cantonese and dim sum lunches. Bottom line: worth it? It's expensive, though it does deliver on luxe level amenities and service."

"Situé au coeur de Chicago et à quelques mètres du Magnificent Mile, la célèbre avenue de shopping chic, le Peninsula fait partie des plus beaux hôtels de la ville et il n'a pas pris une ride depuis son ouverture en 2001 grâce à une restauration constante et le souci du détail qui caractérise l'enseigne de luxe asiatique présente aussi bien à Shanghai qu'à Paris ou New York. L'établissement d'une vingtaine d'étages, est doté de 330 chambres cosy qui offrent un confort contemporain avec souvent de très belles vues sur la ville. Parmi certains détails qui riment avec luxe ultime : les écrans de commande digitaux ultra high-tech pour les lumières et les appareils de la chambre (avec traduction des commandes en français !), le service VOIP des téléphones qui permet d'appeler à l'étranger gratuitement (même sur un portable), le bouton Spa au-dessus des baignoires qui permet d'écouter de la musique détente de spa quand on est dans son bain, la moquette moelleuse à souhait et le parquet parfaitement ciré, et bien sûr un service exceptionnel digne des Palaces parisiens... Au-delà des chambres, vous apprécierez le programme " Keys to The City " qui offre différentes exclusivités aux clients de l'hôtel lors de leur visite des attractions de Chicago, la belle et longue piscine aux grandes baies vitrées, le spa élégant et moderne, le restaurant Shanghai Terrace aux délicieuses spécialités chinoises revisitées à la sauce contemporaine, et enfin le Pierrot Gourmet où on se régale de plats de style bistrot ou de pâtisseries françaises... Difficile d'égaler le niveau de raffinement du Peninsula en matière d'hôtellerie à Chicago, même si la concurrence est de plus en plus rude. Coup de coeur !"
