"Bib Gourmand 2024 "Chifa" is a term referring to a delicious mashup of Peruvian and Chinese cuisines. If the green velvet chairs and zebra-print walls aren't enough of a clue, look to the team who isn't shy about anything. The succinct menu pulls from family recipes and childhood memories to pack in flavor at every turn. Start easy with Japanese sea bream soaking in an orange and lime sauce, before moving on to char siu, starring pork cheek finished on a wood-fire grill-it's the stuff of barbecue dreams. Your visit would be incomplete without the lomo saltado, featuring tender chunks of filet mignon and sauteed onions coated in an umami-rich gravy and served on a pile of French fries. If, by some off chance, you're still hungry, finish with a black sesame-cheesecake tart."

"In the Michelin guide. A Peruvian/Korean fusion restaurant. Had ‘The Mandarin’ cocktail which was very nice. Parking sucks. Beef heart skewers, braised spare ribs and filet mignon on top of fries were all great. "

"This restaurant-slash-showroom in the Eagle Rock neighborhood is pure Hollywood Regency glam: velvet chairs, zebra-print wallpaper, and playful ceramics, much of which is available for purchase. In the early days of its existence, you could almost feel the stylized space longing for the return of in-person dining to bring it fully to life. Dinner service at this Peruvian-Chinese spot has been drawing diners at a steady clip to its patio for chicha morada and mapo tofu. Humberto Leon, the cofounder of cult brand Opening Ceremony, partnered with his sister Ricardina and her husband, John Liu, bringing back some of their mother Wendy’s recipes from the time when she owned a restaurant in Lima. Dishes, including Wendy’s signature Cantonese soy sauce chicken and a take on her char siu pork, smash any suggestion that Chifa values flair over flavor, while making the whole endeavor a true family affair. — Krista Simmons"

"waiting for an outdoor table among planters filled with meticulous shrubbery, the owners of Chifa in Eagle Rock might suggest you stroll through the restaurant’s dining room. They haven’t yet opened it for service but its high design — an ’80s fever dream with low, emerald-colored velvet seats, zebra stripes racing over one wall and scallop-edge seashells along the seafoam-speckled tables — tempts like a museum display whose chairs you want to settle into. It’s the work of Humberto Leon, who co-founded the fashion brand Opening Ceremony, and his family; the restaurant is in part an homage to the restaurant his mother, Wendy Leon, ran in Lima, Peru, four decades ago. The menu is most strongly informed by the long influence of Chinese immigrants on Peruvian cuisine: beef noodle soup (the spicy option is still relatively restrained), spiced spare ribs braised in soy sauce and Shaoxing wine, zongzi (steamed sticky rice with meats, vegetables and duck egg yolk bundled in a bamboo leaf, also available vegan). Early comers snag the prize dessert: almond-scented jelly in the shape of a purple corn cob, served with candy-red chicha morada syrup. It’s a collaboration with Nünchi’s Lexie Park, and there are only a few orders each night."
