These 26 acres of fenced gardens are especially lovely in the spring, or almost anytime from March to October. I like to stroll here on weekend mornings with my daughter, stopping in the Oriental Garden, created by Japanese landscape architect Isamu Taniguchi when he was 70 years old. Zilker also has a rose garden, a garden of succulents, and children’s gardens. In April and October the Douglas Blachly Butterfly Trail is aflutter with migrating butterflies. The dinosaur tracks in the 11⁄2-acre Hartman Prehistoric Garden were discovered in the early 1900s and date back 100 million years.
