"Biblioteca Vasconcelos, located in Mexico City’s Buenavista neighborhood, is a striking example of modern architecture and a cultural landmark. Designed by architect Alberto Kalach and inaugurated in 2006, the library spans over 38,000 square meters and integrates seamlessly with a surrounding botanical garden, creating a harmonious blend of nature and knowledge. Inside, visitors are greeted by a vast, light-filled space featuring suspended steel bookshelves that create an illusion of floating, earning the library nicknames like “megalibrary” and “21st-century cathedral of learning.” A notable centerpiece is Gabriel Orozco’s sculpture Mátrix Móvil, a skeletal whale suspended in the central atrium, symbolizing the fusion of art and literature. Beyond its architectural marvels, Biblioteca Vasconcelos houses over 600,000 volumes and offers diverse facilities, including multimedia rooms, a Braille section, children’s areas, and spaces for cultural events, making it a dynamic hub for education and community engagement."

"Mexico City has a lot of street art and you will see examples of it across the city. Building facades and even entire streets are covered in colorful murals depicting various topics. One of the most beautiful streets to admire is the one along Biblioteca Vasconcelos which is entirely covered with famous Mexican characters in brightly painted colors. The library is worth a visit as well. "
