"NYT: There is no such thing as a single best po’ boy in New Orleans, but the ones at Liuzza’s by the Track, which is basically a barroom with a menu, are consistently excellent. (Consider going for roast beef with horseradish.) But the kitchen pays as careful attention to the rest of the dishes as it does to the sandwiches. The best examples are the Creole and Cajun stews that often appear as daily specials, and one of New Orleans’ beloved gumbos: a brothy version filled with shrimp that are cooked to order, which prevents them from going mealy in the pot. It’s seasoned so well you won’t need hot sauce but may require a draft beer, served in a frosty goblet the size of a young pumpkin."

"It’s Monday in New Orleans so do you know what that means … it’s Red Beans & Rice day at restaurants across the region. It just might be my favorite of all the wonderful Louisiana dishes of Cajun and Creole and NOLA descent but it’s rare to find a good version outside of here. Popeyes comes close but at the end of the day it’s still mass produced fast food. So we went over to try it at an old favorite - @liuzzas by the Track. I first came here back in 2014 and have day dreamed about the food a few too many times since then. We arrived right before opening and there was already a large group of people waiting to enter. Most of them there for the Monday red beans and rice special which comes with your choice of smoked or hot sausage. We got a piece of each and while both were tasty I preferred the sliced smoked sausage which was nice and crisp. The hot is similar to breakfast sausage and imo works better as a Po Boy filling. Last time I was here we got their signature barbecue shrimp Po Boy which is a hot mess of a hallowed out French bread Pistolette stuffed with fresh shrimp and drenched in NOLA style barbecue sauce which isnt anything like bbq sauce. It’s a combo of Worcestershire and butter and lemon among other things and at Liuzza’s they pile it on. Still one of the best things you’ll eat in all of New Orleans. Excellent fresh cut fries too. Long live Liuzzas. "

Known for its gumbo and herbaceous barbecue shrimp po-boy (actually a pistolette, or hollowed-out roll, rather than typical po-boy bread), the star of the menu might be the only slightly less recognized garlic oyster po-boy, stuffed to the brim with fried oysters.
