"One of our favorite family-friendly hotels in New York is also one of the most affordable: Freehand is easy on the wallet and the eyes, thanks to its chic interior design courtesy of powerhouse firm Roman and Williams. Aside from a super convenient location in Flatiron (the subway is only a block away, and Madison Square Park is two), we love this hotel’s unique “high occupancy” rooms, which can fit three or four people in a combination of regular and bunk beds. The “quad,” with four twin beds in two bunks, is a dream for any kids on holiday. And when everyone needs a bit of a breather from a day of sightseeing, head to the rooftop between 4 to 6 p.m.; those hours are reserved for all-age parties, and there is a full selection of mocktails for the kids."

"Great hotel: well-positioned, great atmosphere and decoration, comfy and relatively spacious room with bunk bed (1623). Excellent Latin American restaurant Comodo and coffeeshop Smile on the Go on the ground floor. The rooftop bar Broken Shaker was unfortunately closed till April. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is the somewhat indifferent service at reception."

"Le Freehand fait partie d'une chaîne d'hôtels déjà installée à Chicago, Miami et Los Angeles, qui se trouve un peu au croisement entre l'auberge de jeunesse et le boutique-hôtel. Le design des chambres est moderne et épuré, avec une déco assez éclectique (des sculptures qui évoquent l'art gréco-romain côtoient les peintures contemporaines). Pour le quartier, les tarifs sont abordables, surtout lorsque l'on voyage à plusieurs puisque le prix de la chambre est divisé par le nombre de voyageurs. Ainsi, si vous êtes une famille ou un groupe de quatre, vous pourrez partager une chambre très moderne et bien décorée avec deux lits superposés (rien à voir avec les lits en fer grinçants de la plupart des hostels). Le Freehand compte aussi plusieurs espaces pour se restaurer ou boire un verre : Broken Shaker et le George Washington Bar pour se détendre avec un cocktail, Simon &amp"
