But former long-time landlord Gerry O'Brien made it work, making the Churchill Arms one of the prettiest and most convivial pubs in West London. The pub wins awards for the eccentricity of its displays. Outside in spring, a stunning spectacle of floral hanging baskets would make Babylon look plain. Come December, the pub is wrapped in tinsel and the floral display replaced with 100 Christmas trees and more then 20,000 festive LED lights. Inside is a festival of strangeness: more than 1,600 butterflies are mounted and displayed, while 100 chamber pots hang from the ceiling, jostling for attention alongside lanterns, hat boxes and tributes to American presidents. The bar area is welcoming, with real ale from Fullers, and locals mixing with regulars from the nearby Daily Mail and Evening Standard offices. The conservatory-like restaurant at the back has served well-priced curries and Pad Thai since the 1980s; order prawn crackers at the bar if regular crisps feel too ordinary for the surroundings. "

Impossible de passer à côté sans le remarquer même si vous essayez, sa devanture est plutôt visible de loin, et change en fonction des saisons. Alors attendez-vous à voir des fleurs multicolores durant le printemps-été et une montagne de sapins pendant l’hiver. Et je vous invite à franchir les porte du pub car l’intérieur vaut également le détour… Collections d’objets vintage, plantes vertes et autres ustensiles de cuisine sont accrochés au plafond, de sorte que vous vous sentirez un peu comme dans la caverne d’ali baba (ou la cabane de Hagrid). Sans oublier le petit restaurant asiatique au fin fond du pub. Cheers to that ! "

"This is a pub in Kensignton that is a normal pub-style layout in the front (covered in Churchill paraphernalia), but doubles as a very good Thai restaurant in the back. Like straight up some of the best Thai food I’ve actually had. Unlike normal pubs, you need to make a reservation for the Thai restaurant. Once you come with your reservation, look for a spot that’s actually upfront in the pub (not in the back with the restaurant) – which is not a reservation situation. You can sit in the pub part and they will bring you the Thai food there. Very unique.  "

"The Churchill Arms is best known for its plant-clad façade. Described as the most beautiful pub in London, it's most attractive when the flowers are in bloom, which also makes it irresistibly Instagram-able! You’ve likely already spotted another picture of it on Instagram or Pinterest. The building is something special so if you are in Notting Hill it is worth the visit to Kensington. The walk from the tube is about 5 minutes. Churchill's interior is equally over the top with florals, foliage, and whatnots hanging from the walks and ceilings. Spoiler alert - this pub was the first in London to open as a Thai restaurant and they've been serving the same cuisine for over 30 years. They are open for lunch, and dinner, and close early morning. If you are craving fish and chips, keep reading for more interesting pubs with good eats!"
