"James beard nominee 2022. Small menu, but chicken for dez. Rene Andrade, a native of Nogales, Mexico, is preparing some of the most vibrant Sonoran food in greater Phoenix on a single Santa Maria-style grill fired with three kinds of wood. Most dishes see the hot grates — carne asada, octopus, finfish, half chickens, potatoes, elotes, even pots of plump pinto beans. Tonging tome-thick steaks and squeezing lime over chiltepin-flecked aguachiles, Andrade glances up to greet diners streaming into his tiny dining room on Grand Avenue. He approaches caramelos and burritos with the technique and rigor of a veteran chef, yet they remain homestyle. And yes, a limited cocktail menu mixes in plenty of bacanora. "

"Grab a bar seat close to the kitchen and watch Sonoran-born chef/owner Rene Andrade and his team play with literal fire as they command the flame from the massive custom-built grill. At any given moment, you’ll find elote blackening (above), homemade flour tortillas warming, spatchcocked chickens charring, and massive bone-in rib-eye steaks searing, all above burning mesquite. Don’t snooze on the small-plate specials—Andrade will often do cold crudos and acidic aguachiles that help balance the menu."
