"n the wall of the Brunkeberg walking tunnel (Brunkebergstunneln), a mysterious, brief message has been hammered into the metal plates by an unknown scribe. This piece of street art (or should that be tunnel art?) laconically states: 'My life has a hole the shape of my 15-year-old sister. I miss her every day.' No one seems to know anything about the message's background. Aside from this enigmatic text, the Brunkeberg Tunnel is worth a visit on its own merits. The 231-metre-long tunnel between Normalm and Östermalm has been featured in many music videos and films. After 1997 restorations, when the walls were partly covered in shiny metal plates, it became a futuristic location. It is also slightly dangerous during rush hour, since riding a bicycle in the tunnel is, surprisingly enough in safety-obsessed Sweden, allowed. Pedestrians need to be quick on their feet and alert to the danger of briefcase-toting lawyers and bankers from the surrounding offices riding their bikes at death-defying speeds through the narrow tube. Another danger that causes grumpy old men to shake their umbrellas in anger is the skateboarders that enjoy doing their thing here."
