"This classic daytime-only Iranian spot on Westwood Blvd is best known for its beef tongue, and rightfully so—it's a meaty, tangy masterpiece that deserves all of its hype. But it shouldn’t be the only sandwich you order here. We love their kuku sabzi, an herb-based frittata, or the juicy beef koobideh on thin, chewy sangak bread. Also, come any day of the week and experience a front patio that turns into the social heart of the neighborhood each afternoon."

"iranian f you’re headed to this classic daytime-only shop on Westwood Blvd., chances are the beef tongue sandwich is on your agenda. And rightfully so, this iconic sandwich is a meaty, tangy masterpiece and one of the most well-known dishes in the neighborhood. That said, it shouldn’t be the only thing you order. We absolutely love their kuku sabzi, an aromatic, herb-based frittata that you can get either as a sandwich or as an entree. Get both and fight about which one is better with your friends. The excellent beef koobideh is juicy while still holding together and comes with thin, chewy sangak bread that soaks up the marinade and becomes an ideal after-meal… meal. Also, come any day of the week and you’ll experience a front patio that’s the social heart of the neighborhood every afternoon. The only respectable Iranian food, any expat will tell you, can be found only at her mother’s home. And it tends to be true — the vast diaspora of Iranian restaurants in Los Angeles specializes mostly in simple rice dishes and kebabs, which are delicious but no more related to the intricacy of Iranian cooking than a plate of steak-frites would be to the marvels of the French table. Attari is not a temple of Iranian cuisine — it’s a simple lunch spot in a shady Westwood patio, although sometimes it does seem like a bit of Tehran café life circa 1975. The restaurant is famous in Tehrangeles for the dense vegetable soup called osh. The jam-thick stewed eggplant, kashke badjeman, is nice. But on Fridays, the crowd is there for ab-goosht: a plate of mashed chickpeas and lamb served with a basket of lemony herbs, thin flatbread and a cup of their essential juices to enjoy as soup."

"Westwood’s sandwich game is strong thanks to Persian staple Attari, where the tongue sandwich reigns supreme, and pleasant afternoons can be spent on the sunny patio while taking comfort in homey bowls of osh. "
