"1 Michelin star 2024 Chef: Wilco Berends Tasting: €95-155 De Nederlanden bears its name well. The decor, the charming service and the culinary style lend this former country hotel a quintessentially Dutch atmosphere. This building has plenty of character, combining historical charm with contemporary sleekness. From your table you can either watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen or take in the delightful view of the River Vecht and the drawbridge. It is clear from the menu that Wilco Berends loves his terroir. When it comes to produce such as lamb, eel and cheese, rest assured that the chef will serve you the very best the region has to offer. Be sure to try his oyster dishes – a speciality and a great start to your meal! What follows is the result of a blend of classic expertise and contemporary playful creativity. A shining example is the slow-cooked cod that chef Berends presents on crispy fennel brunoise, combined with cockles and mussels, and finished off with a sublime buttery jus based on the cooking water from the cockles and mussels.One final tip: If you want to experience De Nederlanden to the fullest, book one of the magnificent guestrooms."

"Het water aan de voorkant van het restaurant, een rijtje Hollands Glorie-huizen daar weer achter en Porsches aan de zijkant van het hotel-restaurant (hoewel we het zelf nog altijd doen met een roestige Gazelle en een Greenwheels-abonnement). Nog voor we binnen zijn, is alles in orde; zo hoort onze vakantie-voor-twee te beginnen. Binnen worden we warm onthaald door Caroline, een gastvrouw die haar pappenheimers kent: op gepaste afstand als haar publiek dat aangeeft, amicaal als het kan en altijd keurig en correct. Het restaurant zelf is net zo: knus en warm aan de ene kant, maar ook die witte gesteven kleden en een vleugje formaliteit die je verwacht bij een sterrentent. Uiteraard wisselt het menu van De Nederlanden regelmatig; het zou gek zijn als het dat niet deed, maar we trekken Wilco aan zijn oren als de steak tartare en de kreeft voorgoed verdwijnen. Wie slim is, reserveert ook één van de gastenkamers boven het restaurant. Ook die zijn perfect: ruim, comfortabel, sereen en kijken uit op het knappe Vreeland. Moeten we nog zeggen dat het ontbijt de volgende ochtend tegen perfectie aanschurkt? Vast niet."
