"Design: The Douro Valley is the world’s oldest designated wine region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Douro River winds through the mountainous landscape, where terraced vineyards host authentic quintas, houses where winemaking families reside. At Quinta da Corte, the house was designed and furnished by French architect Pierre Yovanovitch, offering guests a stylish experience that feels like staying with the family who runs the estate. There are only eight rooms, each with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.Wine: Quinta da Corte is a perfect spot for those who love dry wine and, of course, port. Guests can visit two wine cellars—one for port and one for red wine, the latter also designed by Pierre Yovanovitch. During a tasting, you’ll learn all about the winemaking process and, naturally, sample the wines. There’s more to do as well: they offer boat trips, vineyard picnics, and even the chance to help out on the terraced vineyards for a day."

"Bien que signalé dès l’entrée du village, on loupe facilement cette petite quinta (ferme) entièrement décorée par Pierre Yovanovitch, dans un style qui mêle les traditions portugaises et design contemporain. On s’attarde volontiers dans le petit salon aux tons poudrés ou sur la table commune de la salle à manger, face à l’immense cheminée couverte de carreaux de céramique bleus et blancs. Assurément l’un des hôtels dans le Douro que l’on préfère. Quinta Da Corte, Douro Valley When French winemaker Philippe Austruy first bumped along this estate’s dusty, semi-paved track back in 2012, he fell for it on the spot. The sun-scorched vineyards were so primitive only pickaxes and horse-drawn ploughs could tame them; the white, ochre-yellow-framed stucco quinta – standing in solitary splendour on the edge of a UNESCO-protected hillside – had been left to crumble after a drawn-out inheritance battle. Austruy enlisted slick, Paris-based architect Pierre Yovanovitch to transform the low-slung, 19th-century building into an elegant rural hideout without altering any of its original structure. His eye for detail makes the result feel deeply rooted and authentic, with custom-made, slim-limbed colourful sofas, alabaster light fittings and brushed-metal lamps jumbling up with vintage rotary phones, musty editions of Proust and Brecht and pretty ceramics hanging off turmeric-orange walls. The eight bedrooms are examples of still-life simplicity: wicker chairs; light from slatted shutters bouncing off textured plaster; recessed niches filled with jugs of wild flowers. On the veranda, the inky-blue slither of pool hovers over the sweep of mottled-green vineyards. And there’s a functional Scandi punch to the new winery, a stark-white cube jutting out of a bluff below the main house. After snaking along the river in flat-bottomed wooden boats or exploring nearby port houses, gather for porto tónicos before family-style suppers of lemony grilled octopus and traditional cozido meat stew. Just a two-hour drive from Porto, this is the sort of spot a smart crowd visit for a lo-fi recharge; a slow-paced long weekend after an urban hop. By Teddy Wolstenholme. L'hôtel de charme idéal pour découvrir les paysages du Haut Douro. Au 1er étage de la quinta, les 3 plus belles chambres offrent une jolie vue. On adore les espaces communs, notamment les petits salons meublés sur mesure par le décorateur Pierre Yovanovitch. Le petit déjeuner et la table (réservée aux hôtes) privilégient les produits frais et locaux. À partir de 200 € la nuit, avec petit déjeuner."
