"Just a five-minute walk from the restaurant, you'll find an estate not to be missed. Clos des Papes, one of the oldest in the appellation, has been run by the Avril family since its creation, a promise of consistent quality and tradition. Paul Avril is now at the helm of the estate, while his grandfather worked at the birth of the appellation. Unlike the two previous châteaux, only one cuvée is produced here, both red and white, and year after year, it remains one of the finest Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The 2005 cuvée was even named “best wine in the world” by The Wine Spectactor, the leading American magazine on wine and wine culture. There could hardly be a wine more representative of Châteauneuf-du-Pape than the annual Clos des Papes cuvée. The 32-hectare vineyard is divided into 24 parcels with very different soils and microclimates, some focused on power, others on finesse.
