"Since 1903, The Palace Saloon has been a refuge for those traveling to and from Amelia Island, Florida. Though the barroom has been open for over 100 years, the building itself has been standing since 1878, when it originally housed a men’s clothing store. Socialites like the Carnegies and Rockefellers were often spotted in the early 1900s rubbing elbows with ship captains as they docked in Amelia Island for the evening, and the bar is said to have been the last in Florida to close the night that Prohibition started on January 17, 1920. Today, The Palace Saloon slings drinks like Pirates Punch, a mix of fruit liquors and juice served in a souvenir cup, to locals and anyone else passing through the cobblestone streets."
