"Ce matin le soleil est présent, mais timide. Nous vérifions la météo : pas de pluie avant 10h30. On s'active et nous nous posons sur un parking réservé camping-car aux pieds de la forteresse. A 8 h nous sommes prêts pour visiter la forteresse de Varberg : Construite à la fin du XIIIe siècle, elle a été considérablement agrandie aux XVIe et XVIIe siècles pour devenir une forteresse bastionnée impressionnante. Elle a servi de prison jusqu'en 1931."

"About 70km south of Gothenburg lies the pretty seaside town of Varberg (population 27,000), an easy hop, skip and a train ride away. The population more than triples in the short Swedish summer, thanks to miles of rock and white-sand beaches that extend to the north and south. Within the town itself is a strong nude bathing tradition at the Kallbadhuset baths, and there are also designated and segregated beach areas set aside for typical Nordic days minus threads. Away from the tanning bodies, Varberg is dominated by its fortress, a hefty pile that has often played an important role in the area's history, but which now hosts an excellent museum cen-tred on the remains of one of the most important bog people ever discovered in Scandinavia. Varberg's pretty central square is where you'll find the church, tourist office and several restaurants and cafes. Walking Varberg Five minutes' walk from the train station is the most instantly recognisable piece of architecture in Varberg, the Kallbadhuset, a Moorish-style outdoor bathhouse that stands on stilts above the seawater. Trashed twice within a decade by storms (1884 and 1902), this incarnation dates from 1903. After a bracing dip, head to the sauna. Sunbathing areas (nude) are divided into male and female sections, with steps leading down into the water. There's also a cafe for those who prefer to keep their clothes on. Set high on a bluff overlooking the sea, just a short walk from the Kallbadhuset, is Varberg's big attraction, the fortress. The exhibitions on the Halland region, Sweden's hunting traditions and medieval life at the fortress, plus the small art gallery focusing on the impressionist Varberg School of the late 19th century are interestine enouch but the real Below the fortress starts the strip of nudist beaches that extend along the Strandpromenaden. Don't expect white sand; these beaches all consist of large smooth rocks, all with easy access to the water. Beaches are segregated by gender: the first two, Kär-ringhalan and Skarpe Nord, are women only; a few minutes further south is Goda Hopp, the men's bathing spot. Apelviken, 2km south of Varberg, is Sweden's best spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing. At the southern end of Apelviken, Surfcenter (apelviken.se) rents boards and also gives surfing and windsurfing lessons from late May to August. In town, the Fahlén Surfshop rents out surfing, kitesurf-ing, windsurfing and paddleboarding gear."
