"Eater. It feels like a million years ago that the longtime owners of Saul’s Deli announced that they’d sold the Berkeley institution only to have the looming COVID-19 crisis cause that sale to fall through. So, Peter Levitt and Karen Adelman weren’t able to retire, but the silver lining is that during the course of this pandemic, Saul’s has been even more of community staple than ever, serving its menu of updated Jewish deli classics — its pastrami sandwiches, latkes, and matzo ball soup — as takeout and, when it was allowed, out on its expansive parklet. Best of all, it started boiling and baking its own bagels in-house, and they’re amazing: well-blistered, crunchy-exteriored beauties that can go toe to toe with the offerings of any artisan bagel specialist in town."

"Saul's is your classic Jewish delicatessen, where the massive menus are full of the untrendy food Jews grew up eating. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick nosh, or just want to pick up some chopped liver by the pound, Saul’s has what you need. Pastrami, corned beef on rye, matzoh ball soup, and pickles, lots of pickles, are the stars of the show, though breakfast does have the allure of challah French toast. Picnic table dining is available outside, and takeout orders can be placed here."
