"Eldorado Canyon State Park hiking trails — best picks Eldorado Canyon is a great close-to-Denver/Boulder hiking spot if you want dramatic canyon walls, creek scenery, climbers on the cliffs, and trails that do not require an all-day commitment. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset, and timed-entry reservations are required on Saturdays, Sundays, and summer holidays from May 1 through October 1. The reservation itself is free, but you still need a valid Colorado state parks pass or daily entrance fee. Best trail for you: Rattlesnake Gulch Loop This is probably the best “real hike” in the park. It is about 3.6 miles with roughly 1,100 feet of gain, rated moderate, and climbs to views of the canyon, eastern plains, and the Continental Divide. It also passes the historic Crags Hotel ruins, built in 1908 and later destroyed by fire. For your usual 2–3 hour hiking preference, this is the one I would pick. Expect a steady climb, some rocky footing, and better views than Fowler alone. Easiest scenic option: Fowler Trail Fowler is the best short, low-stress trail. Boulder lists it as easy, about 1.3 miles with 280 feet of elevation gain, and it runs into Eldorado Canyon State Park. It is wide, scenic, and has excellent canyon-wall views without the bigger climb of Rattlesnake Gulch. This is the right choice if you want a relaxed walk, are with someone who wants easier footing, or just want canyon scenery without committing to a climb. Longer option: Eldorado Canyon Trail This is the more substantial hike from inside the park, climbing out of the canyon toward Walker Ranch connections. I would treat this as more of a fitness hike than a casual canyon stroll. Good if you want more mileage and elevation, but less ideal if you only want a 2-hour outing. Best simple plan Arrive early, especially on weekends. Do Fowler Trail first for the canyon views, then continue onto Rattlesnake Gulch if you feel good. That gives you a flexible hike: easy canyon walk only, or a moderate 2–3 hour loop with a viewpoint and historic ruins. While the park has many excellent hiking trails, the Eldorado Canyon Trail probably gives visitors the most bang for their buck in terms of scenic views, physical activity, and overall experience. With a total length of 6.6 miles and an overall elevation gain of 1,978 feet, the Eldorado Canyon Trail is not the easiest trail for all hikers. But most past visitors report that its challenges are certainly manageable, and will likely provide worthwhile exercise without forcing hikers to exert themselves too much."

Little Eldorado Canyon State Park, just a short ride from Boulder, is a hotspot for rock-climbing walls: It has over 1,000 technical climbing routes within the park, plus 11 miles of hiking/mountain-biking trails, and fishing opportunities in the scenic South Boulder Creek. And if you get thirsty, Boulder's Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery is only 20 minutes away. Amazing Airbnb nearby: Colorado Quartz Mountain Ranch"
