"Nyt best list, Vietnamese market and great banh mi Sammie’s"

"“Fast food” isn’t necessarily pejorative. At Bánh Mì Ba Lẹ, the sheer quantity of Vietnamese groceries, pastries, dessert drinks, noodle salads and hot prepared foods is an overwhelming sight. (With many, just pop the plastic lid and start consuming — it’s that fast.) But there’s a reason the bánh mì is its namesake sandwich. The speed with which they are made belies their refinement. What makes Ba Lẹ’s version especially memorable are the house-baked rolls, with a shatteringly crisp crust and a soft, open interior. When you bite into a freshly made bánh mì here, be prepared for a shrapnel of crumbs exploding in every direction, giving way to tender pork cold cuts, smooth livery pâté and crunchy matchsticks of pickled daikon and carrots. Even better than the flagship đặc biệt sandwich is the barbecue beef bánh mì, its grilled meat bearing the sweetest char you’ll encounter. "

"Timeouts best cheap eats Their daily specials vary depending on the freshest produce and meats available. The result is delicious banh mi sandwiches at a great price. Newbies to this sandwich should start with the well-priced dac biet, a pork and pate sandwich served with homemade mayo, fish sauce, scallion oil, cucumber, pickled daikon and carrots, cilantro and soy sauce."

"Boston has a spectacular banh mi scene, but the best of the best can be found at Ba Le in Dorchester. Its barbecue beef banh mi may just be the best sandwich in the entire city. The bread, which is baked in-house, has a shatteringly crisp exterior and a pillowy interior, and it is packed with fresh vegetables and sweet, charred strips of beef. Plus, some optional fresh jalapeno if you like it spicy. The shop remodeled and expanded its interior during quarantine, with now even more Vietnamese pantry staples, delightful sweet and savory pastries, and other goodies on offer. Be sure to pick up a Vietnamese iced coffee while you’re there."

"Banh mi dac biet Vietnamese sandwich "

"Ba Le is where to stop for banh mi on Dorchester Avenue, a thoroughfare of authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Fields Corner. The bustling bakery and coffee shop makes its own baguettes daily, among its full Vietnamese menu. Nearly a dozen varieties of the traditional sandwich are available here, all amped up with house-made mayo, fish sauce, scallion oil, and fresh and crunchy aromatics. Banh Mi Dac Biet is the classic cold-cut and pȃté “combination pork,” and other good choices include the BBQ Beef and Anh Mi Xa Xiu (braised pork belly)."

"This is the crown jewel of Dorchester’s noteworthy Vietnamese dining scene. Banh Mi Ba Le is a combination market and takeout restaurant — there are a few seats in non-COVID times, but it’s best to get your food to go and eat it elsewhere, such as at the nearby Robert E. Ryan playground, weather permitting — and it’s best known for its grilled beef banh mi. The bread, which is baked in-house, is both shockingly crispy and pillowy, packed with fresh vegetables and sweet, charred strips of beef. There are few better sandwiches in the city, or anywhere. Wash it down with some passion fruit juice, and get some Vietnamese pantry staples from the market."
